The Cakery — Restaurant in West View

I really wanted to like this place, just based off the good reviews I saw online. It was also close by and thus, more convenient than going down to Bellevue, where I normally go. We wanted to try a new bakery. I placed an order for a galaxy birthday cake for my sons 15th Birthday. The cake itself looked absolutely gorgeous. I had to grab it on Saturday for his birthday on Sunday because they are closed on Sundays. I did what the girl at the counter said, to refrigerate and take out 3hrs prior to cutting. The icing had a mint taste to it, when I specifically asked for vanilla buttercream. I thought it was just me at 1st, but everyone else who tried the cake said the exact same thing. It was really off putting and it tasted like I had just brushed my teeth, especially the lingering aftertaste. My son is a cake person and will make it known when he has a good cake. He didnt even finish the slice he had. I felt terrible for him, because it was his Birthday cake and I know he was looking forward to it. I'm a type 2 Diabetic and it's always hard to find any bakery items sugar free. I was excited to find this place and my bf and I drove an hour to try it. We got: pumpkin bread which he loved, a slice of vanilla caramel cake (we both loved it) peanut butter & regular cheesecake bites, both good but I liked the peanut butter more, and a peanut butter pie. Haven't tried the pie yet but with all the other items, I bet it's just as amazing. We will definitely be back. There were still more items to try and next time we will come earlier to see if we can try other items as well. I was glad that the sugar free sweetener was monk fruit and Stevia not maltitol. I recently went to The Cakery and I am definitely impressed!!! I had purchased a cake for my birthday from Giant Eagle that was absolutely awful!! To compensate for the awful cake, I purchased a slice of chocolate cake from The Cakery and let me tell you that slice of cake was heaven in a little plastic clamshell!!! The buttercream frosting is perfect and the cake melted in my mouth. Their pie bars are amazing!! The staff that work in there are so nice and sweet. They gave me suggestions my pie bars such as heating them up and putting ice cream with them. I will definitely be a repeat customer. Thank you, The Cakery for saving my birthday cake...
