29 Must-Try Restaurants in Princeton! 🔥 Each One a Memory of Joy!

I used to go to the location in Philly but that location was very small and a little out of the way so we would only go every once in awhile. Really opened my eyes to a world of fresh ramen instead of the dry packaged noodles that I've been eating since I was young. Majority of it being Nongshim Shin Ramyun brand to be exact. This location is closer, not by much but definitely much roomier on the inside which is a huge plus. Now with the current pandemic going on and social distancing. Takeout has become the unfortunate norm for 2020 which is fine, anything is better than all the great restaurants from shutting down. We ordered our ramen, I'm usually getting the spicy ramen (guilty, the kimchi sells it for me) and my fiance gets her vegetarian friendly ramen. We got to the location and went up to the door, the employee asked for my name since I was doing take out, and quickly grabbed my order and handed me the bag and I was on my way! We got home and everything was in plastic containers like usual takeout if you're familiar with doing takeout by now especially in 2020. The soup was separate from the noodles, pork, vegetables, and of course who can forget the soft boiled egg! (Seriously, you should order additional eggs with your ramen! ) I poured in my still hot soup in and in a few moments the noodles came to life and separated themselves from each other. It was just as I remembered it when I dined in many months ago. Hot, spicy, and delicious. Really love the firm chew of the noodles. All in all, I've never had a bad experience with Terakawa in Philly or in NJ. Really got to try this place if you've never been or if you have been eating dry packaged noodles all your life cuz this will change you from dry ramen enthusiast to fresh ramen. I guess it's expected cuz everything fresh is most often better but truly, do yourself a favor and give them a shot! Support your restaurants! They need our help in 2020!

UPDATE OCTOBER 2023: We had only ordered take-out from Terakawa before. Today, we opted for dining in. We had to downgrade the place by one star. The dining room is very cramped. The distance between tables is almost nonexistent, so elbow rubbing with other diners is inevitable, with zero privacy (unlike very comfortable seating in Sumi Ramen in Plainsboro, next door). The service is super rushed. Our appetizers and the main courses arrived exactly at the same time, which considering our miniscule table for two was quite inconvenient. The food and the pricing remain good. -------------------------------------------- We had ordered a take-out from Terakawa Ramen last night. Very positive experience. Our choice was Kyushu Danji Ramen (natural heritage pork bone soup with mayu oil (dark roasted leek with crushed garlic oil) with medium thick noodle topped with roast pork (charshu), bamboo shoot, red ginger, seasoned boiled egg, kikurage mushroom, cabbage, carrot, and bean sprout) and it was very good. The amount of food, such as noodles, the ramen soup itself, the pork and the fillings was plentiful. We can honestly say that the portion was enough to feed two people. The packaging was great, the food was still hot, as if it were served in a restaurant. The restaurant features chef-driven recipes from Kumamoto region in Japan. We will definitely order from Terakawa again.

Possibly one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in years, if not ever. Food is decent.

The older gentleman with grey hair was extremely rude. One of us ordered the spicy ramen but they brought a veggie ramen instead. When we informed them of that, he came barreling over and borderline yelled at her saying "you said veggie ramen!". When I told him "no she didn't" he just stood there staring us down until she was so uncomfortable she said she'd just take it since it was already made.

Why would we lie about something like that? He didn't repeat the entire order to confirm after taking our order which is a very basic waiting skill. I really wanted to leave after he raised his voice and stared us down but I thought maybe it was just a heat of the moment thing. I've raised my voice before unnecessarily and felt bad about it afterwards so I can understand the reaction.

Not sure if it was pride or lack of customer service training/experience but he made us feel very unwelcome. This whole situation could've easily been saved but he never came to check on us once the entire time we were eating. He couldn't even muster up a single "sorry" even if he didn't really mean it. He could've simply came over and said "thank you for taking the food, we're running on small margins these days". That honestly would've salvaged the entire experience. Instead, he gives us the check without us asking and asks if we need anything else while he puts the check down. Then to top it all off, not one of the three servers said bye to us when we left. We were one of two tables in the place so they weren't even busy.

The Kyushu Danji I ordered was good although slightly too salty as a base level. Ramen is supposed to be salty but this was a little much. It's a shame because it has a ton of flavor which was a bit masked by the salt level. Noodles had good texture. The pork char su they used had a very strong mirin taste which I do like but it's not for everyone. Karaage was tasty. The batter was light and the spicy mayo was actually spicy.

They do offer the option to customize the saltiness which is a great idea. I feel like all ramen places should offer that. Prices are good for what you get.

There's no shortage of restaurants in New Jersey with good food. Customer service is what sets them apart. I cannot support a place that approves of this type of behavior...

We are self-proclaimed ramen snobs — it’s my absolute favorite meal — and Terakawa blew us away.

From the moment we arrived, the service was phenomenal. The host noticed me struggling with the heavy door and quickly came to the rescue, even cracking a joke: “Don’t worry, after you have ramen you’ll be stronger!” That set the tone for the entire experience — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.

Appetizer: We started with the Charshu bun. When asked “crispy or soft,” I assumed it referred to the pork itself, but to my surprise the bao bun came out golden and crispy. It was unique, unexpected, and absolutely delicious.

Ramen & Udon Dishes: “Spicy Ramen” The server politely asked about seafood allergies (a thoughtful touch I assumed was just standard). What arrived was a rich, seafood-based spicy broth with tender slices of Charshu pork. Complex, layered flavors in every bite — the kind of broth that makes you a little dizzy in the best way.

“Charshu Udon” Simple, clean, and delightful. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the bok choy perfectly cooked, and the udon chewy and satisfying.

“Mayu Ramen” This was the star. The broth was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted — deep, complex, elevated by the mayu oil into something extraordinary. It came with straight noodles (excellent), though I might try wavy egg noodles next time. The surprise addition of pickled ginger shreds was a revelation; I usually avoid them, but here they added the perfect balance of spice and tang. Truly outstanding.

Service: Beyond the food, the service was impeccable. Servers stood at attention when not helping guests, ready to step in the moment you needed something. They repeated orders to ensure accuracy, communicated clearly, and even as we left, every staff member offered a polite goodbye. The host even stood up from his seat as a gesture of respect and gratitude — a small detail, but it spoke volumes.

Extras: We also tried their hot tea, which turned out to be a cloudy matcha. The flavor, however, was clean and perfect — a great complement to the meal.

All in all, Terakawa delivered one of the best ramen experiences we’ve ever had. From the thoughtful service to the inventive, deeply flavorful dishes, everything was remarkable. We will absolutely return. The prices...

One of the absolute worst experiences I’ve had in my life. We had never been here before, heard good things, and attempted to go here for lunch on a Friday. Naturally there was a wait, which is expected. What isn’t expected, is a party of three waiting over 50 minutes for lunch while the restaurant seat literally everybody else regardless of what order they came/waited. We asked several times about being seated and they kept telling us we were behind another 3 people group. In the meantime we saw 2,4,5,6+ person parties come in way after us, wait a fraction of the time and get seated before us. The final straw was when another three party group, that have been waiting for about 20 minutes, asked about adding a chair to an empty two person table so they could stop waiting, and were accommodated them over us. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and we had no time left to grab food anywhere. They saw us there getting visibly upset and just ignored us. I would never recommend this place to any group of three, or frankly any of my friends or coworkers since I don’t understand what kind of establishment they are running there. I don’t normally write any reviews, even on bad experiences, but this is the most unprofessional and worst dining experience I’ve ever had. I really don’t want anyone I know frequenting this place that’s how bad it was.

EDIT: They responded to my review saying that they run this place in the most efficient manner - a blatant lie. They belittled our 50 minute wait and said we were simply hungry and angry. I’ve waited over 2 hours for food at other places before and accepted that - as long as everyone else is not getting special treatment. We seemingly we’re singled out and made to wait indefinitely, which is simply not a fair system. I stand by my original statement, and will never be back here or recommend this place to anyone else. Reading other reviews indicate this is not a unique case and I’d give this place 0...
