Service was excellent and staff is very friendly. Atmosphere is nice and lively. Prices for most items are reasonable. But the food was just ok. The fried calamari, which was almost $15, was a bit stale, chewy, and parts of it were still cold. It tasted a bit like factory frozen, pre-breaded warehouse stocked freezer burned squid rings (no tentacles) and quickly deep fried. For that price, you would expect them to hire chefs to properly slice, bread, and pan fry fresh, local Rhode Island squid. Nope. The “fried” El Paso Chimichanga was not crispy at all. It didn’t even look fried, it was soft and damp and lacking flavor. The fried “whole Red Snapper” was properly fried and hot and crispy and nicely presented, but it was definitely not Red Snapper. Look at the photo and decide for yourself. Even when fried, Red Snapper has a distinctive red skin with a very recognizable pattern. I’m not sure what this fish was. It wasn’t terrible, but it had a strange, more dense texture. Red Snapper is a very expensive fish and difficult to source, so I can understand why it might need to be substituted. But they should revise the menu to just say “Fried whole fish” and let customers know what fish it is each evening. The complimentary bean dip and salsa with chips is a nice touch, although the chips were a bit stale.
Overall, this is a run of the mill chain restaurant with mediocre food, good service, and a lively bar atmosphere. I would compare the quality to an Applebee’s or Friday’s. If you go, then I suggest to keep it simple and stick with basic dishes like quesadillas, burritos, and tacos. The margaritas looked good, but we...
Read moreI have been seeing Mexican restaurants like this one popping up all over the place, a large selection of big portions of Mexican food based around a handful of sauces (white, green, brown, red). I always love how ridiculous the plates are, mine in particular looked about the side of a trash can lid. The food is very inexpensive for the volume you get, and this place does execute well unlike some others in this niche. My only caveat here was the waitstaff was a little tough to deal with. They mean well but they were very difficult to communicate with and they had to come back to ask us questions a few times after they forgot what they asked us or they brought an item or two that were not right. I also need to point out that the queso was very bland, and I'd swear it was melted American cheese. Anyways if you're looking for a lot of pretty tasty food for cheap, and you're willing to put up with a few minor inconveniences this is a great spot for...
Read moreI will no longer be going to this restaurant and can't recommend it. The food was good tasting, though in my case the "Wet Burrito" which was supposed to include shrimp and chicken, only exposed both meats to the ends of the burrito, otherwise the body was full of rice! The hand-made drinks, such as a margarita, are way overpriced and do not contain much alcohol. In our case, and after the fact shown in the bill, we were charged $16.50 per drink for watered down magarita's; the first was a 12 ounce plastic dump and the second round was 16 ounces, the same price independent of size (I guess we got the same amount of ice?). Management could care less when I politely complained about the ridiculous price/non-alcohol content of their drinks. The manager wouldn't even bother to talk with me. Anyway, they lost a customer and hopefully others will speak out about how they run their business; no longer...
