So very disappointing! Returned to Maine after 10 yrs & remembered F & T as a wonderful environment as well as a culinary enjoyment. Wow!! Not the same !
Waited @ bar for party to get there. Bartender was way more interested in the football game than patrons. Asked for drop of Chambord in flute of garbage flat champagne & his remark was " I'd have to go downstairs for that!" So no Chambord. Apparently, they would have been putting him out of his way!
The atmosphere is more one of a saloon / diner now.
Waitress was sweet & polite; however, clueless. Knew nothing about wines; not that it mattered - they were out of everything on the list. Settled for a white & red ( both were screw cap; sure waitress would have never been able to uncork- she uncapped & just poured w/ out properly presenting.) The wines(both) were unpalatable. CVS across the street had better, and I am positive about this.
They had limited menu- 5 entrƩes listed & they were out of the beef choice.
Then, only a few apps, salads & burgers to choose from-were nothing short of Applebees. Menu had no "oh wow" factor! During our dinner, we could overhear waitresses chatting negatively about restaurant comments about internal issues & patrons. And our waitress obviously told the kitchen I did not ask for dressing on side- which my table verified I had - asked 3 times.
Bathrooms clean.
Meal TERRIBLE! Order wrong - Burger charred burnt on outside, totally raw & cold on inside! Dressing not only on salad but tossed. Other dinners were horrible. Fish was absolutely unpalatable.
THE entire experience was less than below average.
Icing on cake. Not that we would have ever returned; however, the owner/ "chef"( James) came out to the table. RUDELY, he immediately brought up salad. He argued about incorrec order & poorly prepared meals when asking for our opinions. Obviously, he was told about salad dressing. Even if I did not say " on the side" - which I did 3 times - the customer is always right & that is no way to build patrons.
James appeared to be impaired( seemed to be intoxicated) & was agitated while sipping on a glass of something that appeared to be whiskey. After reading the comments from F&G / James; it all makes sense that this place should be shut down. If he had any clue about how the F&B business worked, you wouldn't be reading these rude negative comments. Anyone can write a 5 star & beef it up- however, the track record of reviews are a true testimony of F&T's terrible performances.
Possibly, the State of Maine's Inspector should do a surprise visit to see what is going on here.
Don't waste your time or money here. Such a shame they went downhill. Possibly if the owner paid more attention to details @ his restaurant's demise rather than being in denial & and argumentative. His establishment needs repair. Getting out of denial would be the first step!! IF we could have left a less than 1 * review- we would have. VERY...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been trying to make to the Frog & Turtle since it opened. My expectations were high and I was disappointed. There were only 5 active tables and my girlfriend and I were seated promptly. The items on the menu were a bit expensive, but again, I had high expectations. My girlfriend ordered the black forest ham and homemade baked beans with cole slaw $16. I ordered the center cut roast pork with whipped sweet potato's, spinach and a sauce $24. I also ordered the half arugula salad with no nuts. The waitress served us some fresh foccacia bread which was oily and very very salty...fresh but not great. The salad was as I ordered it, but the onions on the salad were either expired or pickled....they were stale and almost vinegar flavored. The rest of the salad was good and fresh. Time between salad and entrees was 20 minutes. My entree was just a simple two pork chops with cubed sweet potatoes (or squash) not whipped as on the menu over cooked spinach with a sauce. The pork chops were cooked well, the sauce was good, the sweet potatoes were good (but not whipped) and the spinach was over cooked. My girlfriend's entree was better than mine. Her grilled ham was cooked perfectly, although very salty, the homemade baked beans were very good...sweet, smokey with a hint of BBQ flavor. I didn't try the cole slaw as I'm allergic to mayonnaise :-( After our waitress checked on us minutes after we received our entrees, she didn't check on us for another 30 minutes...about 15 minutes too long. After the hostess cleared the table and packed up our leftovers it was 10 minutes until our waitress came back to get our dessert order. We got the apple fritters. It was supposed to have which chocolate on them, but it did not. They were very good. After dessert we waited 10 minutes for the check and then 10 minutes to pay. The check did not have a breakdown of what we ordered, just a printed receipt with the total price and tax.
Maybe I was in a bad mood because I couldn't find a place to park, but the service was slow and the food was not as good as I had hoped. Some items were good, others were not. They need to work on their service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery disappointing experience, we had reservations and were seated promptly. We were given a nice large glass bottle with ice cold water and NO glasses, we finally got up and found a couple. Once server took our drink order, it was 30 minutes before we saw her again with our drinks. We ordered our dinner and received a plate with 2 small pieces of bread and butter. As I took my second bite of bread I found myself chewing on a 1 1/2 inch piece of plastic. I notified our server and told her to make sure the manager knew about this. (No one ever came to apologize or talk to us about it) Our dinners arrived, the Haddock was laid upon a bed of raw onions....... never heard of this, nor was it disclosed on menu, ruined the sandwich. Our other order was "The Westbrook" burger, advertised with caramelized onions, nope....... they were raw onions. By the time our meal arrived we had been sitting at the table for an hour and a half. I noticed other diners that were seated after us, were eating before us. The server was friendly and working hard but was overwhelmed with all the tables she had, Our experience left us with a feeling of never wanting to go back unfortunately. There drink and food prices have also risen to a point way to high for a "pub". Think twice before choosing this place for an...
