To my surprise, WOW Sushi replaced JU-Sushi in Westerly. Disclamer: This review is not JU vs WOW. And I make Sushi myself.
Presentation: The presentation was beautiful, 4 beautifully wrapped, cut, and topped roles (crunchy roles and yummy roles). In the center was a beautiful purple orchid bloom for added presentation (not a cheap flower at all). Garnishings of soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger spaced so not to touch (that's a big thing for me, I like to control the amount of wasabi on every piece). My yummy role was atop lettuce leaves so not to melt the container. I wish more places did this.
Size: My wife and I can normally eat 2 roles a piece. The size or roles filled our containers and was more than enough to send us to bed with our belly's full and our spirits happy.
Flavor: The two roles we had were good. The ingredients were fresh. The rice was good, the ginger was fresh too. No complaints from the flavor at all. The rice (delicious remember) was a little thin on the roles. The portions were almost backwards, smaller amounts of rice, larger amounts of avocado, cucumber and crab. Not what I was expecting, happy surprise.
Price: My opinion of pricing is always in comparison to my first Sushi experience (I was left broke and still hungry at a Sushi bar) I feel the pricing at WOW Sushi is more than fair for this sushi experience. Making Sushi is never a quick task. Takes experience, skill, patience, equipment, and some of the freshest ingredients. For instance, the rice must be cooked, cooled, and a mixture of rice vinegar, sugar, and salt must be added cold as well to get the sushi rice flavor. And if a refrigerator is used, the rice is always dry. So you should not rush the process. That's often why Sushi is so expensive. But WOW Sushi seems more than fair priced. I think the only money he made was the Tip I left.
This would be a 4.5 star review if that was an option. I recommend the restaurant if...
Read moreI'm so sad to say I will not be ordering from here again. I use to order from here at least once a week and now the last two times I have called whoever has answered the phone simply says "please hold" and drops the phone down on the counter . I wait for ten minutes while listening to him take the order of the customer at the counter and ring them out...then heard him talking to the sushi chef for five minutes while I yell into the phone hoping to get his attention. the first time I waited ten minutes, realized he forgot about me on the phone so I hung up and tried calling back only to get a busy signal for ten minutes . When I finally got through again the same thing happened! Didn't even say hello went he picked up just "please hold" and onto the counter again! FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES! Half the appeal of this place is its convenience .If you have ever been here you know they can't fit more then 10 people in the place at once so take out is suppose to be their thing... well 30 min just trying to make an order and I'm done. Such a shame. Hope they get...
Read moreEven though we came in right near closing time, he welcomed us in, had a conversation with us and was really relateabe. The food was really good. Wasabi was good and I could even eat it even though I hate wasabi usually. The prices are SUPER CHEAP. VERY CHEAP AND GOOD. The prices are like half of what other sushi restaurants would charge. $4 for a make roll... wow... Sadly JU can't get a sous chef but he is a master so great for him that he can run this by himself. 5/5 reccommend...
