Last Tuesday, I went to In-N-Out Burger. Although I do not live nearby, I drive down to get supplies once a week and take advantage of doing all my errands in one day. I was late for lunch, and driving home for 30 minutes while starving was not an option. Due to allergies and other restrictions, I follow a specific diet with a focus on clean eating. I have to be careful with it, so I usually avoid fast food places. While looking for a place that used to serve turkey burgers at the shops, I realized that it was no longer open. As a result, I decided to go to In-N-Out Burger, but I was hesitant because I tried to avoid crowded places. When I got in, Emma greeted me with a big smile. I asked for specific things to switch on my burger, and she replied, "Absolutely, we can do that." I ordered a lettuce-wrapped burger, and I removed some things. She was very flexible and did not question me; I was thrilled. "Wow, she's so lovely," I thought. I went to get a glass of water, and while searching for it, a young man who worked there approached me and asked if everything was OK. I asked for the water, and he kindly pointed it out. After that, I resumed working on my research paper using my phone while having lunch. Suddenly, I heard a voice asking if I was having a good day. To my surprise, it was the same kid who had helped me earlier. He had a charming smile. I observed him going around, cleaning tables, and doing various tasks, but he kept smiling. I found it fascinating, especially since my research is about whether "Smartphones and social media are responsible for the emotional crisis among young Americans." "This kid is nice and courteous," I thought. His name is Jordan. As I left, I couldn't help but smile, thinking, "These kids should be studied." I had an excellent experience, and I'm sharing this because I'm studying and learning about people's behaviors, especially among teenagers.
While walking in the parking lot, I had a moment of amazement. I thought, "I can't imagine finding another teen as kind and polite as the first two I encountered." But then, to my surprise, I came across a teenager taking orders in the drive-thru section. As I entered my car, he turned around and politely said, "I hope you had a good time with us, miss, and hope you have a good rest of your day." "I said, "Oh no, I'm not leaving without taking a picture." I went outside and asked, "Are you OK in the sun?" He replied, "Absolutely, I have my umbrella." I followed and saw him standing under an umbrella, cheerfully and happily smiling at people. I thought, "Wow." Though I don't know his name, I will add a picture of him to this review.
There is growing concern about the impact of social media on younger generations and how smartphones have transformed teenagers' interactions with their parents and friends, often prioritizing virtual connections over personal ones. Small interactions with strangers are essential as they help us feel less isolated. According to science, these interactions not only improve our social skills but also enhance our emotional well-being and happiness. Therefore, it's essential to recognize the significance of these little moments in our lives. Keep up the great work, kids. I will be...
Read moreJust want to give a "shout out" to the main store manager, Justin, and and the on-duty manager, Josh, who I had the pleasure of meeting when I placed a very large order a few days ahead of time. Both were so incredibly kind, professional and helpful! In short, we wanted to have 100 burgers prepared and at the ready for our wedding planner to pick-up and bring back to my daughter's wedding reception as a late-night snack for late-staying guests. I came in 9 days early to arrange for this order and Justin, who was most attentive (despite my unfortunately arriving during a bit of a busy time) in accepting my order. He wrote everything down, including the name and phone number of the contact person for the person who would be in charge of picking up the order the day of the wedding. He advised me that to ensure there would not be any confusion, that I should return the actual week of the wedding because of how In & Out manages their weekly ordering/accounting.
He provided me with his schedule for that week and how to directly contact him if needed.
I returned on the Wednesday before the wedding, to find Josh in charge. He too could not have been more friendly and helpful. I explained my conversation with Justin. He immediately called Justin (who was actually off that week until Friday), and was able to locate the order as written by Justin. I was able to easily complete the transaction, confident that everything would go smoothly on Sunday (the day of the wedding).
Suffice to say....when I looked around at 10pm during the wedding reception, I saw (to the ABSOLUTE DELIGHT of our guests...many, who like the bride and groom, live in NYC) our caterer's servers tray-passing the In & Out burgers, and wearing In & Out hats (some of which our guests then managed to find and wear as they danced around with silent disco headphones on).
Want to thank Justin and Josh for their part in providing my daughter and her husband with the perfect "grand finale" to their wedding night. Our photographer definitely got some priceless photos of the bride and groom in their formal wedding wear, both wearing an In & Out hat, with a burger in one hand and drink in...
Read moreWe are big fans of In-N-Out, but this location was really disappointing. It was about 4:30 today (Wednesday) when we ordered. It was pretty quiet and well staffed. Unfortunately, at least half the staff were moving very slowly or wandering around the kitchen chatting and not doing anything. At one point several people were standing in line to order and four employees looked at them and continued to wander around the kitchen talking to the others that were working. It was a couple minutes before anyone approached the customers to take their orders. Our order was taken back to the kitchen to be fixed and when the young man was carrying our bag back he was swinging it back and forth. I didn’t say anything, but it was extremely unprofessional and of course the fries were spilled all over the bag. I did let the young girl at the counter know the women’s restroom was out of toilet paper. She said okay, and did nothing about it. Hoping that some additional training and supervision will happen to help...
