So we were looking for a nice BBQ spot and boy were we in for a treat today. After searching google we find Jeanne’s BBQ. We check the menu and pricing and everything was amazing until we show up and pick up our order. They told us over the phone that the order would be ready in a few minutes we asked for a specific time and they responded “not long”. After a 15 minute drive we arrive and the nachos are not ready. Along with that the pricing was way off of what we expected.
Website Menu and Google Menu pricing. ————————————————————————— $14.99 -brisket & rib combo $10.99 -full order of beef brisket nachos. $8.99 -1/2 order of beef brisket nachos.
Total of $34.97 without tax. —————————————————————————
What we paid:
Actual Payment Transaction ——————————————— $18 -brisket & rib combo $18 -full order of beef brisket nachos. $12 -1/2 order of beef brisket nachos. 4% -charge for using credit card
Total of $48 without tax or 4% charge Total of $58.44 with tax and 4% charge —————————————————————————
So first I would like to ask, how did a rib/brisket meal go up $3 and brisket nachos go up $7 making both meals $18 each? And the half order of nachos only went up $3? We felt as if we truly got the short end of the stick here, as the pricing did not make any sense. Also the cashier was well aware of the menu not being updated on the website claiming “they really need to update the menu, because we were not the first to bring this up.” Regardless we paid the bill and headed home.
The food:
First off before I started to dig in I was scared to bite into the brisket and bite into a chunk of gold for what we just paid. But no gold I’m fine.
The brisket was delicious, tender, and the best part of the meal.
The ribs were dry and mediocre.
The mac and beans were good.
The chips and queso in the nachos were the ordinary Sams Club nacho pack you get for a birthday party. Also for the price increase you would think they would not be so greedy with the toppings.
Horrible experience, nasty secret pricing that they ARE aware of. Not...
Read moreI've eaten here twice now with my boss, on our lunch breaks. Both times, I was not disappointed. I am very picky about the BBQ I eat. Only a very few places have managed to meet my standards. The first time we ate there, I had just the basic pulled pork sandwich. I picked the coleslaw as my side dish.
It comes with a little cup of bbq sauce. I assume it's homemade. The sauce is sweet and a little tart, with some smokiness that is not overpowering. The big downfall of most BBQ places is that they don't really try with their sauce. The average BBQ place's sauce willbe bitter and too smokey and not sweet at all. A good homemade sauce should be sweet. A good sauce can make a huge difference if the meat it's on isn't that good. But at Jeanne's both are really great.
The pulled pork is soft and not too chunky. I would have liked some pickles and onions on it, but they don't seem to offer that with anything I've seen there. This last time, my 2nd visit there, I got the pork steak sandwich. My first thought after ordering was that it was going to be a big solid piece of meat on the sandwich and each bite would be like a mini wrestling match to pull it into my mouth. But no, I was pleasantly surprised! I could bite right through, no trouble at all. The meat was perfectly tender. I had spread my little cupof sauce on the bread and what was left, on the meat. You just get bread and meat. No toppings. But it was still really good.
I also have to mention that their fountain drinks are somehow mixed better than most places. I drink Dr. Pepper most of the time and get it from various gas stations and other restaraunts on a regular basis. I don't know what they do at Jeanne's but their syrup mix for the Dr. Pepper is perfect! Its better than any other place I get my soda fix on at.
I'm hoping that I can take my family there soon and try one of the bigger entrees that is offered on their menu. My favorite BBQ dish is ribs and I haven't tried...
Read moreIf you are near lake Charles area this is a must stop for a meal and experience. When you walk in you know this will be an experience of a lifetime. The decor is amazing and charming. The fallen heroes table truly tells you the type of people they are. I was greeted with smiles and just amazing hospitality. The menu tells you a story that they care about the food and your experience. More restaurants should take notes on having daily specials like this one. I asked the lady taking the orders what she recommends and told me ribs and brisket so I went with the combo with an order of Mac and cheese in addition. The sides I went with where the sour cream potato salad and I forget the name but a dirty rice. 1st the sides: sour cream potato salad was unbelievable tasty. I'm a NYer and have always would get potato salad as a side with my sandwiches at NY delis but this was such a different taste with the sour cream. It was fresh and creamy. The dirty rice was very good kind of had that bottom of pot Spanish rice taste which I love and made me think of my abuela's rice. Mac and cheese was good the cheese sauce is fantastic. Main meat: Been living in San Antonio for 2 years and between Austin and S.A. im all brisketed out before this visit. This was the greatest brisket I have ever had. The bark and flavor was so clean and it just cut so clean. I closed my eyes on my second bite that good. Ribs where ok meet was not as flavorful however once I added the sauce made the difference. Final thought: If I'm close enough distance this will be a must stop for now on. Thank you Jeanne's st. BBQ for a great...
