I won't be back, would give zero stars if possible.
I'm a pretty easy going Canadian living in the area and I'm not the least bit picky when it comes to food. You have to really try to get a low grade from me, and this place excelled at scoring low points.
No menus at all by the door, and the walls are constructed in such a way that you can't read the tiny font on the menus behind the registers until you're next in line and now you've got a ton of people waiting behind you while you're reading the menu for the first time trying to figure out what to eat. Strike one.
We ask the cashier how big the kid's quesadilla is since we'd never been there before. "It's our usual size." Uh, that gives us zero help. We had to ask twice to find out it was a 6" tortilla shell. Our son asked VERY politely for no sour cream or avocado and it got included on the plate anyway, he got pretty upset with the server about it. Strike two.
Cashier slip asks for a tip up front, when you don't even know what kind of service you're in for. Had I known, I would have tipped zero. Strike three.
Go to get drinks, the soda fountain is full of drink names that mean nothing to anyone who has never had this off-brand drink before, and the only tolerable drink was the creme soda and it was so over-carbonated it took two minutes to settle and fill a bit more, settle, fill a bit more. There were no forks or straws by the drinks. I asked a worker, who had no idea where to find more and told me to go ask the bar. Gee, thanks for the helpful service, so glad I tipped. Strike four.
We find a table with our two kids, seated near six other tables that were just adults, and the guy who didn't know where to find straws comes to our table offering us "cocktail service". Sorry, we don't drink around our kids and it's lunch time on a Sunday, really? Gave us a really uneasy feeling.
Guy walks away, not asking any of the other tables with adults if they want a drink, comes back later to the lady now seated next to us, single mom with a baby, and asks her if she'd also like a cocktail. I know being a parent can be stressful, but seemed to me like this guy was targeting the wrong demographic at 12:30pm on a Sunday, and he wasn't asking any of the tables around us with adults only if they wanted alcohol. Strike five? I'm losing count here.
We waited well over half an hour for our food, with nothing for our kids to do -- no kids menus or crayons or anything -- it was pretty busy, and the best part is that the kitchen apparently shares a hallway with the bathrooms. Aren't there any health guidelines about that?? Eww. Strike six with a side of e.coli
My "grande" burrito with chicken is labeled as chicken "fajita", which required explanation from the server, but I think I managed to find some actual chicken at the bottom of my burrito with the teaspoon-sized glob of guacamole. The burrito was easily over 90% rice and beans, it wasn't until the last inch and a half of the burrito that I actually saw chicken or guac. Granted it was only $8, but at least mix that stuff together. Strike seven.
One of our kids' baskets with bean and cheese tacos had a greasy chunk of chicken stuck on the side of the basket, I grabbed a picture of it for a souvenir, of anyone wants a copy, and attached it to my review here. Strike eight.
The guy who brought our food from the bathroom-slash-kitchen came to our table at the end of our meal (not during) to ask how we enjoyed our food but didn't even stop to hear our answers before walking away with a cheerful "uh-huh, thanks for visiting today."
Ninth strike. No-hitter inning.
I was kind of surprised with a"visit" this lousy that they'd be bold enough to put a sign on their tabletop napkin dispensers asking patrons to text them how their service was. Hopefully I can find a URL for this review and send that to them... I can't imagine how many SMS messages this would take. I neither expect a response or care to visit again if they offer anything to rectify what was truly an...
Read moreBooo. Do you have a new kiosk system. That is no good. We did not have a choice to get regular service. Also, it held up the line. There’s a learning curve. We also had to put in a code that held at the line.
Then finally, the other register got open. And I was still waiting to get my register done and the other person who is behind me got served first.
I do not recommend the kiosks.
part II update 4/29.... Ok, I went to your link to reply... but it DID not work... I had typed this below: We went there yesterday with the all our people from work... and when we arrived there were ONLY 2 Kiosk's available. No "real person" to serve us.. UGH... So we had to place our own order... and people started to pile up behind us because it was slow... there was a 3rd register "human one" but that was "not working" ... sounds like that wasn't going to be working... because corporate said they only wanted to use the Kiosk's... ONLY . after about 5 minutes placing my order I got stuck with basic questions... where is the queso,... how do we "add" extra salsa's to our taco order.
then after being there for 4-5 minutes.. the 3rd register did open for a brief moment. ... the person behind me went to that register and placed order in 2 minutes or less... and I asked the CASHIER for help.. she put me on delay because she was helping the other customer, who was behind me.... and I had to wait... UGH very frustrating...
This set up isn't good... customers don't' like this... even McDonalds and Wendy's have the "option" to order in person or by machine... at least give people the option. We won't be going back there until we have a "real person" at the registers... we usually go 1x per month...4-5 people.... I understand though, that you want to give it a shot to try to be innovative... GOOD LUCK.. I do hope it work's out for you and you can serve more customer's without "losing" them...
you had already built a relationship with your customer's... and a certain culture there...
Also a few of the worker's mentioned they are NOT getting tips, or not as big. We didn't leave a tip in front because are all having to do our own work... to place the order. We don't' leave tip's at McDonald's Wendy's burger king etc... because it has that type of feel...
Read moreI was in this restaurant today for the last time. I was with a large party and we had pushed two tables together, there was no signage saying it was not allowed. We had several orders of food brought to us with no incident. Your bartender, Dani, then came over and very rudely told us we needed to move so she could move the table since what we did was not allowed. She continued to very loudly berate us about the atrocity of what we had done. After my husband told her that she could be kinder she went as far as to say she didn't need to be nice to us since we broke the rules. She was incredibly rude for no reason.
I absolutely understand that what we did was not allowed, and, as an elementary school teacher I appreciate being in the position where you have to enforce strict safety guidelines due to the pandemic. I am not faulting her for the correction. This could have, and should have been handled so much better. She could have politely informed us of the rules and asked that we move, and we would have done so. She was incredibly unprofessional and, in my opinion, a person who treats customers like that has no business working in any level of customer service.
What came to a further shock to our entire party was that after the incident she moved the table, but did not wash it before another customer sat at the table. There were several guidelines that are enforced at other restaurants that were not followed today (such as needing a new cup for a drink refill, sanitizing tables and chairs in between customers, etc). I would think that a person that was so fervent about one rule, would be fervent about all of them.
I am very sorry to say that after our experience we will not be visiting any Torchy's...
