It’s been almost a month since my experience at this establishment, but I still feel very displeased and disappointed by the service that my party and myself received, so much so that I’m writing this review at the risk of sounding like a complete Karen. But as a preface, I 100% understand and sympathize with what the service industry is going through right now as a whole. I know everyone is short staffed and overworked… But as someone who has 6+ years of serving experience, half of which employed by a 4 DIAMOND (not star) resort, I found this “upscale dining experience” to be below average, highly disappointing, and overpriced.
To set the scene: My group of 5 arrived in town on a Thursday evening and arrived at Asiago’s at almost exactly 7:00pm. It being a Thursday, they were NOT busy and there were maybe 4-6 other tables in use. After a few minutes wait, we were escorted to a 10 top in the far corner, right next to their spare chairs and vacuum cleaner, with the view of the city almost completely blocked from view by a half wall… rather than any of the various 6 tops that were set and unused. I took notice that they had a twosome set at a 6 top while there were various 2 tops available.
After 10 minutes of waiting and browsing the menu, our server, who I’ll just refer to as “J” because I don’t want her to get in trouble, finally arrived with some bread and a pitcher of water and glasses, which she proceeded to fill from one end of the table and then dole out to me to distribute to my party members.
We put our orders in and proceeded to chat amongst ourselves while waiting for an appetizer and food to come out. About 15 minutes after putting in our orders, some of our party members water glasses were almost empty. J came back to drop off the appetizers and asked if we would like to order any alcoholic drinks, we declined and requested more water. After 15 more minutes (30 minutes now), all of our waters were empty and she hadn’t returned. After 30 minutes (45 minutes) glasses were empty and had been for a while. We eventually had to flag down an entirely different server just to ask for some water because ours had disappeared and not come back after the appetizers were dropped off.
So, after over an hour, our waitress finally reappeared and the food finally arrived. The waitress kept making small comments as she dished out our food and topped off waters trying to get us to compliment her as she served us, which makes me think that the other server we flagged down may have told her to pick up the slack, but I don’t really know.
HERE is what’s really the most disappointing experience: 3/5 of us ordered the “Parmesan Crusted Alfredo”… does the picture I’ve provided have chicken that looks “crusted” in any way, shape, or form? This is literally just cheap grated Parmesan sitting on top of the chicken. And the piece of chicken itself was SO BLAND. It tasted as though there wasn’t a single sprinkle of seasoning on it. We had to LOAD our dishes with salt and pepper for it to even taste decent. Paying $21 for this felt like a huge rip off. And it was rung in as simply “Alfredo pasta, add chicken”, which makes me wonder if the item we received is even what we ordered.
Overall, nothing about the experience was “upscale” as you are led to believe and you’re better off making chicken and pasta at home.
I’ve also attached a picture of the lovely view we had next...
Read moreI can't emphasize enough how terrible the experience of eating at Asiago's was. Started 5 seconds after I and my gf went inside. We were left standing for several minutes before someone deigned to take us to a table. We asked for a window seat and the girl said none were available, then proceeded to seat us right next to the window. Next we noticed a basket of bread that was already on the table. How long it had been sitting there... who knows? Then our server came to the table and poured what appeared to be the contents of a colostomy bag into a dish, ostensibly to dip the rather dry bread on the table into. "What the hell" I thought, and dipped a piece of the dry bread into the colostomial looking liquid. It tasted okay, nothing special. But my poor teeth got a workout chewing that tough bread. Then out server launched into a 3 minute spiel about the specials that day, much of which I didn't even understand. We ordered drinks, me simply wanting a sweet tea and my gf a margarita. Got my tea within 5 minutes but it took over 20 minutes for the margarita. Ordered our food and began a stretch of about 40 minutes until it arrived. I had a pasta dish, and fully half the plate was sitting in a pool of water due to the pasta not being properly drained. Our server barely checked on us at all, and imo copped a condescending, even brusque attitude with us (maybe she was miffed we didn't go for the specialty du jour) during our meal, not to mention virtually snatching our mostly empty plates without even asking if we were done. The food was just alright, again nothing to write home about, but good god the prices... The place must think it's in downtown New York or something. If that were the case they wouldn't last a month given the mediocre quality and absurd prices. I dropped about $100 for our food, which wasn't even that large of an order. Which has the distinction of being the most I ever spent at a restaurant. And the coup de grace was that I and my gf both had sour, crampy stomach issues the next day. So, in summary, the service was poor, the food was mediocre, and the prices were ridiculous. Not to mention the stomach problems. Eat anywhere but...
Read moreWow what a delightful evening we had for our only dinner in Johnstown! Of course we took the incline up the hill for the unique experience. Be mindful of the hours, as it stopped running for the day soon after our journey up. We visited right before sunset on Friday October 16 and luckily we snagged a window table. Even though they say all the tables have great views in the tiered seating area, I would definitely hold out for one by the windows...you will be rewarded with jaw dropping views of Johnstown and the mountains that surround it. We also lucked out and were assigned the fabulous Brittney R. as our waitress for the evening. She was really on top of her game with brilliant suggestions and never rushing us...she even sent me some pics of the view with rainbows and various weather conditions.
We started off with a couple specialty cocktails that looked and tasted great. We settled on the baked pizza roll with pepperoni as a starter and it came out oozing cheese and flavor. We had pasta dishes as mains: I had the wild mushroom ravioli with beef tips and my partner had the Lobster ravioli. Both came out perfect and my medium rare steak tips were cooked exactly as requested. By now it was night time and the city/valley was just gorgeous with the twinkling lights. We also had 2 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc with dinner that were perfectly tasty. We were beyond stuffed but dessert here seemed like a must do, so we chose to split the caramelized cheesecake. I also had a cordial and coffee and with all we ordered the bill only came to $120. I was more than thrilled with the value, quality and unique ambiance of eating with such a view. Brittney was a gem as well; she knows service! The icing on the cake was we were pretty much the last people in the restaurant and no Uber/Lyft drivers were around...they gave us the local taxi company phone number and said if they don’t show up, someone would drive us back to the Holiday Inn! Now that’s going extremely above and beyond...bravo to the team at Asiago! Our taxi did show up and it was a $6 ride back to the hotel. A perfect evening in Johnstown...we will...
