Stopped in for lunch with my sister, this is another favorite spot sheâll miss moving to the west coast soon. We were promptly and pleasantly greeted by hosted Kayla. We told her weâd like a patio table, the weather was gorgeous out and a perfect table on the edge of the patio was open and available; complete with some sun and shade to satisfy both my sister and I. Our lunch started down a rocky path with our server Jonathan. He seemed nice enough, but was very inattentive to our table. In a half hour of sitting, we received our waterâs- minus the lemon and lime requested or my sisters drink; another server delivered bread & butter to our table, we didnât have plates, silverware, napkins or a butter knife to slice the bread. We couldnât seem to get any other servers attention as they were constant and visible for the tables they tended. Jonathan then brings out fresh bread apparently unaware someone had delivered some to our table, but I assured him that was fine; I asked him to take the cold bread, leave the warm in which he was delivering and plates please. He did, but he also walked away with the silverware, he was delivering as well. After waiting a few more minutes, looking about for his return and the other servers seemingly not really wanting to assist or service a table not their own my sister and I removed ourselves from the lovely patio table that was clearly being ignored. We went inside back to the hostess Kayla, explained to her our last half hour of growing impatience and hunger (get these gals a Snicker bar!) Kayla couldnât apologize enough, not really knowing what was going on with the server Jonathan. She again promptly seated us inside this time and assured us our dining experience would be better. This time our server Jennifer, came right over to our table took our drink & appetizer orders and we were both well prepared to give our entrĂ©e orders. Jennifer got my water with plenty of lemon/lime and my sisters spirit drink right to the table. Mgr. Nicole came to our table to ask about our experience on the patio. I explained The inattentiveness and the fact that in 30 mins we couldnât even eat bread, and donât even think about placing an order! She also assured us, that is not the experience Pappadeaux wants any customer to have and she politely apologized that our lunch outing had gotten a poor start. When I tell you Jennifer provided top notch service, believe me! She tended our table as if we were her only priority! I know we were not, as I saw her tending other tables. I appreciated that she wanted to make sure we enjoyed the latter part of our lunch. Mgr. Nicole graciously comped both my sister and I an appetizer of our choice, which we had ordered anyway! But that was an awesome âWE CAREâ gesture from management. THIS IS THE KIND OF SERVICE, gesture, and correction is what consistently shows customers we are a valuable asset to the longevity and bottom line of your business!
The meal was delicious as always! I enjoy the food at Pappadeaux. I had the Calamari appetizer to start â mouthwatering & scrumptious! My dish is the fried catfish filets, best Iâve ever tasted! Seasoned to perfection with a loaded baked potato, d.i.v.i.n.e! My sister ordered her fav, a shrimp, crab and spinach dip that she will travel hours just to order as takeout â it come with a toasted side of garlic bread, I canât remember her entree because she only raves about that dip! But there are only compliments to the kitchen. I appreciate the turnaround on what turned out to be a wonderful...
Read moreMy wife really enjoyed Pappadeaux when we were in Texas. So, for her birthday, I wanted to surprise her with Pappadeaux in Illinois. Unfortunately, we were surprised to find out that not all Pappadeaux restaurants appreciate their customers. We had a 2pm reservation. Keep in mind that the restaurant opened at 11 am. There were several open tables, but we were put on a list. So we took a seat at the bar while we waited for a table. It took the bartender 15 minutes to acknowledge that we were at the bar. We let the bartender know that we were waiting on a table. The bartender gave us a bar menu and walked away. The bartender found her way back to us 15 minutes later. We ordered drinks that took another 15 minutes to make. Our table was finally ready, so we paid the bar bill and headed to our table. The young lady who took us to the table had zero personality. So now it's time for our waitress to stop by and take our drink order and give us menus. She came back with our water and took our appetizer order. Our waitress also had no personality. So we get our appetizer, and the waitress takes our meal order. Our dinner order took at least 1 hour to get to our table. Dinner was good, but 1 hour to food to our table. That is totally unheard of. Dessert time. It's my wife's birthday. We did this at Pappadeaux when we were in Texas. They had free dessert for her birthday, but we were in Texas then. That is not the case at this Pappadeaux restaurant. They have nothing special for birthdays. Very sad. So, unfortunately, my wife's birthday wasn't as great as I had planned. I will find a different restaurant to celebrate a belated birthday at a restaurant that appreciates their customers. We have been to Pappadeaux in Texas on several occasions and never had an experience like we did at this Pappadeaux. After the experience that we had at this Pappadeaux. I most definitely would never recommend the Pappadeaux restaurant to anyone. The food was good. The service was terrible. So. Remember I stated to keep in mind that our reservation was for 2pm. The restaurant opens at 11 am. My wife went to use the restroom at 3:30 pm. The women's restroom was trashed. No toilet paper. There were no paper towels to dry her hands. Then, to top it off, someone urinated on the floor in front of the toilet. One of the waitresses was in the restroom. She never washed her hands and never reported the condition of the restroom. It was my wife who said something. From my experience in dining out. If a restaurant can not keep the restrooms clean, they can not keep the kitchen clean. Anyone who reads my reviews, know that I tell it the way it was during my visit. So, recommend this place? Absolutely not. As always, please be safe in your travels and when you feel that empty feeling in your tummy. Always find a good restaurant, stop in, and enjoy a...
Read moreMy husband and I had a date night at Pappadeaux recently. He loves crawfish and we've never been there, but I've heard great reviews.
Our super friendly waitress recommended the deep fried alligator for an appetizer, and we were a little hesitant because we had it before at a different restaurant and it was chewy and tasted odd. We gave it a try and loved it! It was super soft, and the spicy dip it came with was delicious! I highly recommend trying it.
We came to P's on the wrong day for the crawfish pot (which comes with red potatoes and corn). This is what my husband was hoping to get. Since they didn't have it, he ordered the deep fried crawfish. It came atop a huge bed of French fries and looked like popcorn chicken. It came with a tartar and a cocktail sauce, I believe. He liked it, but wants to stay away from fried foods, so next time we're coming for the crawfish pot!
So, I am pretty new to seafood. I'm taking baby steps trying new seafoods, since I was absolutely disgusted with seafood as a child up through my twenties. I love crab, but am not super fond of getting all messy and working so hard to crack the shells to get to the meat. They had a deep fried soft shell crab, which I thought would be just crabmeat covered in batter and deep fried, and that it'd look like popcorn chicken. I had no idea that you actually eat the soft shell. They basically bread and deep fry the entire crab without removing the shell. This made for a very Alien-movie like experience when my plate of food was presented to me. It looked like a deep fried giant spider on its back, on top of a mound of French fries. It also came with tartar sauce.
I am sure most people like soft shell crab, but I couldn't get over the look of it. When I broke of a leg (cringe!!), I could see the skin/shell, and that nauseated me. I was able to rip off the legs, and ate the body parts of the crab as you couldn't see the shell through the breading. It was very good. I had to put the legs on my husband's plate because they were creeping me out. I will definitely get something different when we go back!! Or at least I'll ask better questions before ordering!
The Blueberry Moscow Mule that I ordered was delicious and I could have had another, but decided it wouldn't be good to show up a little buzzed to the Christian marriage retreat we were going to later that evening!!
And last but not least.... Praline Cheesecake! Oh my word...this was freaking amazing! The BEST cheesecake I have ever eaten in my entire life. Huge piece of cake. Huge praline and pecan chunks in the middle, and the most delicious, buttery and thick graham cracker crust. My husband and I split it and we still couldn't finish it all. It's a must have!!!!!!
All in all, it seems like a great place to eat, but if you are new to seafood, start with salmon or...
