I’m going to state that we went as a party of 9 with kids during a pub crawl event. While a loud environment was okay to have kids in and they had kids food available - I would not advise bringing kids for reasons listed under cons.
Cons - 1.) The seating is terrible! They have the space for maybe six tables comfortable, but instead they smash as many tables as they can in their small dining area. It is to the point that if some were at their table they will be trapped by the next 1 or even 2 tables should all tables be full. Honestly, the seating is the major reason I’m even writing a review. That was just awful and genuinely hope that they do something moving forward for future customers. 2.) The service was off - I’ll give benefit of the doubt that maybe it was that we were there during a pub crawl event, but the waitress took our beverage order in three parts and dining in two. So it took forever for things to come to the table and there was more wasted time then when typically ordering at a restaurant (ie - once for drinks and then once again for food, then periodically checking back) 3.) Some of the food prices were unnecessarily high. Kids food was not exactly cheap and more on the artisanal side - so if your kids good with it great. Some of our kids were okay, others less. Not the end. The thing that sent me over was the bread and cheese and honey thing for $14. It was 4 slices of toasted bread loaf slices with two dollaps of cheese and some honey drizzled all fancy. I don’t know fully what I was expecting after my sister in law hyped it up like it was some magical unicorn blood elixir. But I just couldn’t function knowing I had honey and crackers and cheese at home for so much less. 4.) Not a ton of vegetarian options - more of a personal quip, so it may or may not be relevant. They had a cheese pizza or the stupid bread. The salads were all with meat and yes I could have asked it to be omitted, but I got the general vibes from our chaotic ordering and the event going on to not ask for anything beyond what was listed.
Pros -
Overall, I will probably never go back and I don’t super recommend it for those going with kids unless they really want to get to know their table neighbors intimately well when one or more kid needs to get up three thousand times to go potty or let all wiggles go that refused to let loose earlier at the park. That said, if friends asked for recommendations of interesting eats with vibes - then sure this would be a place to try out. Just not the stupid bread! (I don’t care what my sister in...
Read moreI've been wanting to try Whiskey Hill since it recently opened and I was blown away by how good the food was. My husband and I went for dinner last night and everything was so good that it's hard to know where to start. Service was outstanding, our server was prompt and friendly and helpful; she recommended the nachos to start, which are potatoes/french fries [more on that in a second] and not tortilla chips and noted that their fries are the best. Indeed they were. Their french fries are like a cross between steakhouse fries - thick cut, crispy on the outside, pillows of soft potato inside - and curly fries, the thick slices are cut into spirals, which is ideal for catching all that delicious sauce. We tried the nachos topped with brisket and when it came out I sampled a single bite of brisket off the top and immediately started raving to my husband about the flavor - perfectly tender, slightly smoky, heaven. He ordered a ribeye, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Chef even stopped by to check the temperature of the steak. They're just getting going, so I do have what I hope will be some well received feedback: the chairs are terrible; I think someone messed up and ordered counter-height stools instead of bar-height stools for the high-tops in the restaurant; we were way too low for the table and that was really uncomfortable (the green chairs). My only other criticism was the pace of the meal. We ordered cocktails, an appetizer, a salad, and entrees, and everything came out so fast that things were piling up on the table while we were still trying to enjoy the previous course. We finished our meal in about 40 minutes which, for food that good, we would much rather enjoy a well paced meal. My husband wanted to order anther beer but the steak came out so fast he skipped ahead to wine. I can understand wanting to turn tables quickly when the restaurant is busy, but we felt very rushed and would have liked more time to enjoy each of the delicious courses. Five stars because the food and service was so good, and hoping that the furniture and pacing can be improved. Can't wait to come back and...
Read moreThis place was a fantastic discovery for our family! We're into craft beer and quality food, and this had both of those and more! We went on Saturday May 10th, as a "night before Mother's Day" dinner out for me! It was a delightful experience.
To start with, there was a very friendly greeter at the door, welcoming us and showing us to a table. The place has very nice rustic, cozy decor and relaxed vibe.
The craft beers were amazing! And we are usually quite picky - but they had SO much good quality stuff on offer! We tried 4 different beers - The "DB Duskbringer" (an excellent Imperial stout), the "Catalyst BT & J" - (A delicious blend of 2 stouts, aged in Buffalo Trace and Jeppson Bourbon barrels), the "Peach Cobbler" (my personal favorite - a fruit beer with peaches, cinnamon & brown sugar - not overly sweet, but tart and fruity) and the "Red Wine Supernova" - (a complex and delicious "wild ale").
The food was equally amazing. Everything tasted very fresh, very tasty and cooked to perfection! I had the Shrimp Napoleon salad (mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, toasted almonds, wonton crisp, lemon pepper and dill marinated shrimp) which was absolutely delicious. My daughter had one of the specials - the "Giant Prawn Etouffee" (two U/4 tiger prawns over Sarasota roux etouffee and rice) which was spectacular - we all had a taste and it was delicious. My husband had the "Fish Fry Platter" (lightly breaded and served with fries, creamy slaw and their home made lemon dill tartar), which was very good and satisfying. At the end, we got a dessert to share, which was fun - special New Orleans "beignets" - deep fried pastries, sprinkled powdered sugar and served hot, with two different dipping sauces, chocolate and fruit.
A really wonderful dinner in a great, relaxed and friendly setting. Will definitely be...
