Johnny Kono's bills themself as a "Five Star Dive Bar." As you can see by my rating, I totally agree.
This is my kind of place. There is absolutely zero pretense, a thorough menu with lots of great options, an ample choice of beers, and Donna, an amazing server.
I've been there twice - once last week and once today. Donna remembered me, my name, where I sat, and what I had to eat and drink last week. Also, this afternoon, she called almost every single person by name and asked if they wanted their usual. The only exception was a couple who drove more than an hour from Cape Cod just to have lunch here. It was like Cheers, but more crowded.
Also, they have a very loyal following. Almost everyone I saw there today I also saw when I was there last week and they all know Donna's schedule. She's awesome.
Last week, I had the Mowie Wowie Burger with fries and today I had the Attack Burger with Tater Tots. Both were good and more than I could finish in one sitting - to that end, they do not hold back on portions. Both burgers were hard to fit in my mouth and today's burger had an ample amount of bacon. They also crank out the food, so you're not waiting long.
And, for whatever reason, I love that the majority of the regulars were drinking Bud Light, Bud, or Coors, and playing Keno with an urgency as if it were the last day the game would ever be available.
I'm definitely going back and getting the Bar Pizza because it looked incredible.
If you're in the area, I'd encourage you to stop in and give it a try. Just be sure to use a GPS as the restaurant is in a fairly residential area and isn't the most intuitive place to find.
When you go, I hope Donna is working - she's...
Read moreWe love going to dive bars and this was our second time here. Being honest - service was awful! Had to ask for a server, who when approached really didn’t look like she wanted to be there. (Pink/black hair, braids) We ordered the artichoke dip - came with 7 chips and no carrots or celery as noted on menu.
Had to ask for more beers although our glass and bottle were clearly empty and at end of table.
Our food came and the bartender tried to hurry away until I asked for the silverware we never got.
Overall, food was decent but servers are clearly lazy. In todays age with inflation and everything else, servers should be happy people are out and giving business - and it really doesn’t take much to be decent in hospitality… coming from a 22 year...
Read moreWhat a surprise this place is! Great, interesting food for fabulous prices. From the outside it looks like a bar, but inside you see that it's clean, doesn't smell like old smoke and spilled beer and has been thoughtfully decorated. Service was very good. The fried bacon Mac and cheese balls were good, had a nice texture. Stuffed quahogs were very very good, had an almost creamy texture to them. Usually stuffed quahogs just taste like Pepperidge Farm stuffing in a shell. Kickin' Crab soup was good, but the flavor could have been a little stronger. I must say, our entrees were wonderful! Broiled scallops and mashed potatoes. To die for. Tender scallops. Skin-on, homemade mashed potatoes. We will...
