Fáilte abhaile! A gem shines in Weymouth...As you walk in, you will feel the opening of the heart(h). I was greeted and welcomed right over the threshold. The walls were smartly decorated with memorabilia from Ireland, but also the local area. There were kids, families, dogs...and music. Basically people sang, ate, and spread merriment. If that is not the trinity of a good establishment, then what is?. The first order of business was to have a drink, not on the lash though. So, I had a Bramble whilst my fellow Romans had Guiness...when just west of Derry...you do what you do. I know a bramble is an English drink I know...sigh, but Sláinte anyhow. One of my friends ordered a martini called a pornstar, it was to sweet for her.
As for the servers, they were very patient and had a bit of the gas...but we were acting the maggots. To settle myself from my merriment, I had some cheesy curry fries (A). Once upon the table, the bowl soon disappeared after my friends devoured them. Plenty of gooey cheese and thick cut fries. I dredge one through ketchup...before you condemn me as a heretic, it was amazing. An experiment that was a success. The servers just to bring this full circle were awesome."Fair play, you did a great job!
So as the hour was upon us of noon, it seemed logical to order a proper Irish Breakfast known in Ireland as drumroll, Breakfast...well a fry-up...but my joke was funny...so think I...anyways soon plates of eggs cooked to order (I saw poached eggs, medium hard, over easy, sunny side up) with: toast (perfect for dredging in left over curry sauce or dunking in lovely sunny side egg yolk), beans, grilled mushroom, grilled tomato, black and white pudding, Irish Bangers, Irish Bacon, and Hashbrowns (you could order home fries)...we ordered a side of corned beef hash. It was all more than grand. I saw good looking cottage pies pass by as well as: bar pizzas and lots of other delights. My friend's daughter order light airy Waffles with nutella...she ate half and smuggled the rest home.
This is a phenomenal place. You can see the pride of the owner and his team at this place.
The hooley ended for us just about 2 pm. My bill came to 172.00 minus tip (Waffles with Nutella ($14), Six Irish Breakfasts ($18), Curry Fries ($9), Hash ($4) plus drinks. We spent $215 total. We left happy and perhaps a little wiser than when we walked in.
The jacks (The toilet) was spacious and clean.
Lots of tvs. I was able to watch some Rugby. My friend Tom went to sing with band.
So what is the Craic? This Public house called The Cottage Bar and Restraunt. It was just a really really nice family time. The owner, Mickey was just a great guy during our time!
This place is a...

Four of us sat down around 8:00 to have dinner and a couple of drinks and appetizers. I ordered a peanut butter cup whiskey milkshake and my friends ordered some other beer and mixed drinks. We noticed that there was not a lot of staff working, but that is pretty normal in dining these days so I didn't think anything of it at first.
About 30 minutes after we were seated, I think, somebody came over and finally asked us if we wanted to order food. The band was really loud but we managed to order two appetizers and four entrees. I finally also got to ask for a water to go with my alcoholic beverage.
About 20 minutes after that, the appetizers came out. They were okay. Then about 10 minutes after that the food came out. Well three dinners came out anyway. I got to sit and watch my friends eat their dinner while I waited for my bangers and mash. It was really fun when the runner brought me over a shepherd's pie about 10 minutes later and when I said that's not what I ordered, she freaked out and started yelling that the kitchen was closed, sorry, and ran away with it saying it was supposed to be for the band. Oh and that's great because I had already taken bites out of it so I'm sure the band really enjoyed that dinner. I was very fortunate in that I was able to get another cup of water to hold me over for another 30 minutes while nobody told me anything about getting dinner or if it was going to be replaced, and then I was served a lukewarm plate of mashed potato and sausage.
Really disappointing, will not be back, you guys should really hire some more back of house help if it's this bad on a weekend. Thanks for the free...
Read moreThe Cottage is the last of the great Irish breakfast pubs on the south shore. I have usually enjoyed my time and my meals here. I have in the past highly recommended this place to people for the Irish Breakfast.
My last visit was a little bit of a disappointment, and I call this out because I genuinely want to provide honest and constructive feedback.
We ordered three Irish breakfasts, one eggs over lightly, one over hard, and one over medium. When they came one of the guys said I have the over easy ones. The server said, "they are all the same." I guess that is a question of degrees but not the same things. Also the Irish Breakfast was a little over cooked, not really a big deal, but worth mentioning. The food came out quickly and with decent portions.
We ordered Bloody Mary's. The Bloody Mary's here used to be great and we ordered the Dill Pickle Bloody Mary. They used to come with a salted dill flavored rim, the menu says they come with a salted rim, they did not come with a salted rim. I figured maybe they forgot and ordered a second one. Also without the salted rim. So this time I asked about it and the server asked at the bar. I was told, " we used to do that but don't anymore." So what makes this a dill pickle Bloody Mary if you don't put the dill pickle flavored salt rim on it? "I don't know I just work here." The Dill pickle Bloody Mary was awesome and I was looking forward to having one, this time not so much.
I'll be going back again to the Cottage for breakfast to try again, but hopefully a more positive result.
The Irish Cottage is worth a visit and I hope they maintain their reputation and my recommendations...
