I recently tried the lunch buffet at this Indian restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. Having sampled buffets at various places, I expected much better. The food lacked any real taste and was overpowered by excessive red food coloring. Even after washing my hands multiple times with soap, the reddish tint on my hands and nails persisted. The buffet offered very limited non-vegetarian options—only chicken. I was expecting a variety like egg, goat, or duck, but there were none. The only rice options were yellow and white rice, which were underwhelming compared to the more diverse offerings I've enjoyed at other Indian buffets, such as chapatis, rotis, and biryanis. The dessert section was even more disappointing. The carrot halwa was essentially raw carrot shavings, and the rice payasam tasted like sugar water with leftover rice. It was painfully obvious that the rice was reused from the buffet because it was so dry.
On top of the lackluster food, I noticed a significant amount of dust and cobwebs on the lamp fixtures and above the seating areas. The AC vent was also fully covered in dust, which created a bad vibe and raised concerns about cleanliness.
However, I do want to acknowledge that the service was excellent. The servers were polite and welcoming, which was a saving grace in an otherwise disappointing experience. But overall, I expected much more from the food and the cleanliness of...
Read moreOur evening here started off well enough - the place was busy, but we were quickly and graciously led to a table. Our order was taken, and we received appetizers and drinks in a reasonable amount of time (though the samosas were cold on the inside). It took longer for the Naan to arrive, and then 45 minutes passed by before we received any attention from the waitstaff again. After seeing two other parties come in after us, be served and leave, we finally flagged down a staff member to see where our order was. The lady went to check with the waiter who had taken our order, who then looked at us, rolled his eyes, and checked the computer. In a moment the lady came back to us with someone from the kitchen, who said something to the effect of our food had been finished for a while, but they'd "lost the ticket" so it had just been sitting in the kitchen. No one had thought to ask around, our waiter didn't check with us once for at long as we had been sitting there, and no one even apologized for the inconvenience or offered to make amends for the rudeness. We left cash on the table for the drinks and appetizers and left.
This is twice as disappointing for us, as we are big fans of Yak & Yeti, we watched this one moving in for quite a while and were very much looking forward to our first dinner there. Make it a usual spot for us and all, you know. I doubt we'll be...
Read moreWell first I was pleasantly surprised by the whole draft list representing beers apparently brewed at Y&Ys other location. A tripel is my favorite so I tried theirs brewed with Thai spices and it did not disappoint. Folks I was eating with hadn’t tried a tripel before and I made new converts to the style. They got the infamous margaritas (shaken, on the rocks, with chili salt) which, according to these margarita lovers, are a hidden gem in margarita world. Then for the food. The papadams came with four delicious chutneys. The tandoori wings are a must try and if you get them spicy they actually deliver a hit. The samosas have delicious filling. The garlic naan was on point. The saag paneer and the Bhangan bharta and the butter chicken (chicken makhani), and the chicken chili (Thai/Chinese flavor surprise!) were all incredible compared to all the Indian food I get in NYC. All served with a generous portion of rice. Very happy my sister lives walking distance from here and I look forward to coming back to try new dishes and maybe even partake in the buffet. Excellent and friendly staff. Cozy interior with lots of seating. Solid place to get excellent belly and soul filling food. Next time I will be prepared and...
