Think they're under new ownership, got some MAJOR penny-pinchers running the place now.
My supposedly three-egg breakfast was maybe an egg and a half at best, which would've been fine if I had A), only asked for an egg and a half ...and B), not been so grossly overcharged.
Also two people in our group had hot teas. Now tea bags in the store are about ¢20 so here's an idea... if you're going to charge $3.50 for them (20x price markup!) then, maybe don't charge people an extra $3.50 for another bag when they request a refill. Just the hot tea alone was $15, most places we go to it's only 5 or 6 bucks for the two, and that's with refills!
Plus if you're not one of their regulars, don't expect the same kind of treatment as them, and be ready for the annoying credit card fees this place charges you at the counter, apparently even as we were paying they had to weasel a few more bucks out of us I guess.
Cheap, cheap, cheap. Oh and beware of the city sales tax for Arlington Heights if you're not familiar with the area,...
Read moreI love a good independent diner. This is the best I've been to in many years. Everything is homemade including the sliced hash browns and the corned beef hash. This isn't your standard chain diner with all the food from Sysco or US Food. The owner, who was also our server and cook for a late weekday breakfast, was very friendly. I told him that we go to diners all over the country and it is not common to find truly homemade food and that we truly appreciated the quality of the food. He was an incredibly gracious and humble man, telling us that this is the kind of food he likes and that he enjoys making everything from whole ingredients that pass through his hands. It is a true gem. We have been back 3 times in less than a month. They were never terribly busy on the days we visited and the service was great even when it was busier. But they do seem to have regular long time customers and everyone knows each other by name. I recommend the corned beef hash and eggs or the lumberjack skillet and maybe even an extra side of...
Read morePassing through Arlington Heights, a rarity for me to even go this far, I was happy with my food. We ordered carryout since with the pandemic, there is no dining in. Food was promised in 25 minutes and it was indeed ready in 25 minutes. The staff are lovely, and rice pudding (I think that's what it was) was included in our order as a treat for supporting small businesses. My spouse had the Lumberjack Skillet and I had a customized one with spinach, feta, and onions. These dishes came with pancakes. The food did it's job, filled us up for the morning and afternoon, no issues. I highly recommend this cute mom & pop place for your usual breakfast food. Prices are amazing, and in the rare occasion we are nearby again, I will be returning. I can't wait until it's safe to dine in again, this restaurant gives you an at home feel and is...
