I really wanted to like this place. I mean, I really really wanted to. The fine dining options in the Wheeling area are nearly non-existent, so I was hoping this would be the one. I was wrong.
I will say, I didn't come in with high expectations. Pricing is a la carte at a pricepoint you would expect for a typical fine dining establishment. However, this is not fine dining, and I'll explain why.
The decor: mostly outdated in the main restaurant, however we had a party of 8 that sat in a private room. It wasn't terrible honestly, that was one of the upsides.
The wait staff: hah. This is the type of place where you would expect more attention from the wait staff, and from more than one person. Not our experience. Drinks ran dry for a while, and we only had one person that waited on us. Not typical at this pricepoint.
The food: This is what we came for, so here it is... The bacon and cornbread appetizer was pretty good, as were the Chicago chopped salads. The smoked prime rib I had asked for chefs choice, which is typically going to be medium rare but in this case it was... Well done. $39 prime rib was well done. The sad thing was, the flavor was good but it was just too dry. My mother in law had the lobster tails, and they were - rubbery. My wife had the strip with crab meat, and she said it was okay in flavor but again, overcooked. Her medium arrived as well done.
Dessert: They were running a special of buy one, get one free. Not worth the price. My cobbler was actually pretty good, but came garnished with a bunch of rosemary - kind of off-putting as that's a strong smell.y wife got the drunken berries, which literally looked like a giant bowl of pancake batter with berries in it.
If some friends wanted to go for a special occasion, I would consider going back - but it's a guarantee I'm not going there for a romantic night... I'll take the road trip...
Read moreThe place has gone downhill since the Covid epidemic. Selection is boring and very limited. The lobster mac and cheese used to be one of its best offerings. Now it takes like bland basic mac and cheese that has a fishy taste. The cheesecake is dried out. They only offer two salads and one soup. The appetizer list is more boring than a library. The crab legs stick to the shell, you can hardly get any meat out of them. I cannot not even begin with the prime rib...ughh..DO NOT ORDER!
The steaks are still good. Service is perfect. The breadbasket and filet mignon are the best things they have which is not saying too much. For its pricing, they should be doing more and they simply are not. This place used to be excellent. Bring back more food options and quality! Until then, eat at the buffet in the casino instead, way better...
Read moreMy husband and I were there 11/16/19 for our annisvary. I made a reservation 10 days prior to our visit. We arrived at 6:25 and was told we could not be setted till after 6:30. We ordered a very expense bottle of wine and placed our order. They finally brought us bread which was great and crab cakes which were not. After 45 minutes we finally recieved our steak . I can honestly say without a dought was the worst steak I ever had. It was overcooked and so dry we didn't eat it. The lobster Mac and cheese was cold as was the aspagras. After paying our almost $150.00 Bill I wanted to show out, but I just wanted out. We had been there numerous times and always had a good experience. But we will not make the mistake...
