Dunderbak's Market Cafe — Restaurant in Whitehall

Update: response to managers reply. While, I commend you for responding, but your response and information are inaccurate. The restaurant was dead with only four tables being served inside, and maybe five people at the bar. So, it was not a full restaurant. While it may have been busier earlier, I don't know. But, I would think your staff would be able to handle the few customers there. As far as the mold on the ceiling tile, it was absolutely mold, green, black, and gray. I know what a water stain looks like. When I mentioned it to your employee in the bathroom her response was, owners are in their 90’s and they don’t come to the restaurant. The staff is doing all they can without the owners investing in repairs. We’ve been customers for over 30+ years, this was very disappointing to see such a decline in service, food, and atmosphere.

I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but last night was horrible from the service to the food and then the severely moldy bathroom. When ordering our food as we were sitting down the server suddenly asked if it was a to-go order. My husband and I just looked at her very confused and said no. The food is not what it once was. We were served barely cooked kielbasa on a hot dog roll, potato pancakes soaked with grease, and burnt (black) pretzel bites. When I asked the server if the pretzel bites looked burnt she replied yes, sorry about that. We did have them removed from the bill. Then I tried to use the sweet mustard the bottle was caked with so much dry hard mustard when I finally got it open and wiped away the crust the mustard popped out of the bottle. I grabbed a mustard from Another table it was gross as well but not as bad. When I used the bathroom the mold on the ceiling tiles was disgusting not to mention the old toilets. I am at dunderbaks and ordered a hotdog from the grill part and wanted to enjoy it in the dining room with my family whom ordered from the menu.! I have been eating here for years. Love their hotdogs... the hotdog comes out and looks good till I flip it over where it was gray and rancid looking. It smelled sour! So I call the server over who was very nice and accommodating and he apologized and removed the hotdog and told me he spoke with the manager. I sit their while my family eats. They are done eating and I had to ASK to see the manager. Out comes a young apparently inexperienced girl.. she walks over and proceeds to tell me the hotdog was fine! She says it's from the steamer that it looks and smells. I have been eating here since they opened. Never has any of their hotdogs looked or smelled. I asked her to eat it and tell me how she feels in an hour from now. I told her she is way to young and inexperienced to be in management. First the customer is never wrong, second she should have come out immeduatly to apologize for the inconvenience. Not debate me and tell me the hotdog was fine.. Updated review 6/28/19: This place has gone way downhill in a year. We used to love coming here but our service today was awful. We had called ahead (11am) since we had 8 people for a reservation since we knew it would require moving tables together and the gentlmen that sat us just said oh i wasnt here nobody told me...no big deal there were very few people anyway so it took no time at all. Our waitress came over and only half paid attention to our orders and requests as she mixed up soups on us (there were only 2 of us that got soup), mixed up entrees, brought the wrong sides and then brought the wrong drinks when 2 of us requested water. On top of this our friend couldn't eat her salad because it looked and tasted awful, they ended up being out of what my husband originally ordered and it took much longer than usual to get our food. Don't know that we will be coming back anytime soon which is a shame because this used to be one of our favorites.
