I am so sorry to have to write this review as The Angry Butcher has been a favorite of our family for many years, including the covid period. However, after our ‘meal’ last night we won’t be returning.
We arrived at 5:20 for a 5:30 reservation. The hostess was kind and seated us immediately on the patio. In moments the waitress arrived smiling and took our drink orders. The drinks arrived shortly thereafter. A man arrived with the warm rolls and the waitress came to take our orders. Perfect!
My husband ordered the 7oz Petite filet mignon, medium. I ordered the salmon along with our usual favorite, creamed corn and a Cleaver Salad. Both items my husband and I were splitting.
My sister-in-law, on our recommendation, ordered the buttermilk fried chicken breast with sage & sausage gravy and desert honey drizzle. She also ordered the mashed potatoes.
My brother-in-law ordered the shrimp and sea scallop sauté.
By 5:45 our Cleaver salad arrived. It was split between my husband and I and, as usual, it was delicious. When we finished the salad all of the rolls had been eaten.
At 6pm the water show began. We had yet to be served our dinner but we enjoyed the show, which is in dire need of upgrades. The show ended about 6:10, still no dinner.
We sat watching other diners that came in after us being served. At 6:15 we were brought more rolls. And a few moments later our waitress finally returned to bring us more silverware, but noted she had already brought them. We asked how much longer and she said it was coming up.
After nearly another 10 minutes or so the food finally arrived. My husband was handed an oval, white plate with a piece of what looked like days old, dried meat. No presentation, no juice from the meat, no melted butter, a dry plate. No, he didn’t order a topping because he loves just the taste of a juicy steak. Cutting into it, it appeared as if it had been cooked then reheated several times over. It was medium well, at room temperature and dry.
My salmon plate was without any presentation. The broccolini was dried, hard to cut, cold. The salmon was very tasty but room temperature at best. Our creamed corn tasted hours old, dried out, cold, the corn hard to chew.
My sister-in-law received two large fried chicken breast that looked yummy. But I told the waitress I thought it was served with gravy. The waitress pointed out the chicken was sitting on the gravy. I had to lean over to actually see a scoop of perhaps gravy with a skin on it on the bottom of the plate; the skin on gravy from sitting too long. Her chicken was not hot but she said it tasted good. The mashed potatoes were cold and dry.
My brother-in-law said his dish was, while not hot, delicious. Either that, or he was just hungry.
The manager took my husband’s steak off our bill and they offered us each free dessert but we declined. Unfortunately, we will not...
Read moreAbsolutely love the location of this restaurant. It's very nice to be able to dine on the patio, and to take in the atrium show that occurs every couple of hours. I made a reservation, and brought my husband here to celebrate his birthday. I usually select something more extravagent.. But, since this was a work night for him, I decided to make a reservation here. We've been wanting to try the Rock Shrimp (we ate it before taking a photo!), and tonight was the night! It was excellent. I like the fact that it is served with grilled peppers. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is quite friendly. It brought back memories, because I remember when it was first built; formerly Papamillo's! Debbie was our server. She was sweet, attentive and very pleasant. We wanted to try a variety of items and dine at a slow pace, and she made us feel welcome doing so. We did have a small mishap. While reaching for something, Debbie accidentally spilled my entire glass of water in my lap. Although I was soaking wet, I knew she felt really bad about it, so I tried to not make a big deal out of it. My right shoe ended up not surviving. Debbie did end up offering us dessert on the house to make up for the mishap; an unexpected surprise. Although, I did think the restaurant could have offered a dessert of choice as a birthday treat, vs. a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Bone-in ribeye was delicious, and was cooked to perfection. We loved this Shrimp and Scallops. I especially enjoyed the spinach that it was served on top of. The portions of everything were generous. We ended up with a couple of, "People Bag" containers. My husband had a glass of Pinot, and I had a Tanqueray and Tonic. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. If you are coffee drinkers make sure to give theirs a try. They serve it in my favorite glass type mugs, and it is excellent! Overall, we had a very enjoyable evening and a delicious dinner. We are locals. and hope to return in the future to try...
Read moreAs a frequent guest of The Angry Butcher, I have enjoyed many memorable dining experiences, often seated at the bar where Daryl, the consummate professional, delivers exceptional service time and again. His attentiveness and friendly demeanor have consistently elevated our visits and set a high standard for hospitality.
Unfortunately, our most recent visit fell noticeably short of that standard due to a disappointing encounter with a different bartender, Ruben. From the outset, the service lacked the warmth and attentiveness we’ve come to expect. Requests for additional dressing and another cocktail were either forgotten or ignored entirely, leaving us to flag down assistance for something as basic as a water refill. Each interaction felt like an imposition rather than an opportunity to provide service.
The situation was further marred by confusion over the application of our dining rewards. Despite clearly communicating our preference to use available food credit, followed by loyalty points, and then pay any remaining balance by card, only the food credit was applied before the remaining balance was charged to our card. When questioned, Ruben dismissed the issue, attributing it to a system error without taking the courtesy to inform us beforehand or attempt any resolution. This lack of communication and accountability compounded the already lackluster service experience.
To the restaurant’s credit, the food remained outstanding. The wedge salad was crisp and flavorful, the filet mignon perfectly prepared, and the steak au poivre delivered a delightful balance of richness and spice.
In summary, while The Angry Butcher continues to impress with its cuisine, the service on this occasion left much to be desired. I would not recommend sitting at the bar when Ruben is working, but I remain confident in recommending the restaurant overall for its reliably delicious food and, typically,...
