This was supposed to be a special day. My mom came down from Arizona, and I canceled my doctor appointment to hang out with her and go have dinner at Rick's burgers, a place we remember eating at many years ago. At of all the places we could have picked from, we chose Rick's. I ordered $35 worth of food. A club sandwich combo, chili reino plate with a drink and a large onion rings, and i tipped at the window. We were happy. We parked and got off to eat outside Rick's burger where the chairs and tables are, but before eating, we wanted to wash our hands and use the restroom, so my mom went in first. As I watched her go in… I can see through the window that the worker who was cleaning looked like she had a problem with my mom wanting to use the restroom… My mom was finally able to use it and I watched her put the key down on the counter as soon as my mom walked outside I walked in to get the key and the worker who was mopping saw me walking in to get the key, and she ran up and grabbed the key and then ran to the back with the key where the cooks are because she didn't want me to get the key… one of her coworkers saw what happened and lied to me and said someone is in the restroom. I explained that my mom was in there last, and I saw the worker run to the back with the key. The worker told me to knock on the restroom door. I told her I did, and....no one was in there. The worker then said it should be open (knowing that you need a key to get in) they upset me and my mom so much. We did nothing wrong for them to treat us that way. Hiding the key from me and then lying about it. Please, to the owner of this business, please pull up your cameras, and you'll see that your employee took the key when she saw me and run to the back with it. This is so wrong. No one should be treated this way. My mom is disabled as she had a severe stroke. All we wanted was to have a good time and eat.. Pls do better. At all the places we picked to eat here where they miss treated me, so I walked out and told my mom let's go. We picked up our mess and left. I will never recommend this place as I felt there were strong judgmental workers. Please pull the camera and talk to...
Read moreI have been going to Rick's for over 50 years. I love everything about it. The food is freshly made and the staff is like a family. In recent years I've primarily used the drive-through where, like the inside, the service is fast and friendly. Their "chili rellano burrito" is my current MUST HAVE with the delicious chili rellano, rice, beans, cheese and sauce wrapped in the toasty flour tortillas. I like this tortilla. Once in a while I'll get a dollar off coupon for next time. These coupons are literally works of art. It's difficult to part with one. Although I'm writing this review in January, I must mention their outdoor Christmas decorations. They are very well-done. Pick up one of their holiday coffee cups while you're there, if they have any left. I like both the red and the white cup. I bought five of each. The designs are new this year and make me happy. The drive-through order menu is all brand new, bright and cheerful. But back to the food. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and I've enjoyed it all. Some things I just don't order out, no matter where I go or who I'm with. One is French fries. I just don't go there. Rick's signature dish for me has always been their single patty hamburger. It's simple and delicious. My goodness! I almost forgot to tell you about their Albondigas soup that I had recently with corn tortillas. Here were two delicious Albondigas meatballs in this homemade vegetable filled broth. I had forgotten how good their soups are. I also had their fried zucchini sticks. Not my favorite. But zucchini never has been as it holds too much water for my taste. These sticks weren't any different. A little too moist for me. I guess that my mind was yelling twice fried french fries and my taste buds had a fit!
Give this long-standing, local iconic diner, drive-through a try. With a mischievous smile, tell them I sent you and ask about their Christmas mugs. Who knows. You might get a free...
Read morethe only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because it's conveniently located where I live and they have good customers service. Other than that this place is not all its cracked up to be. It's ridiculously expensive and has the worst drive-thru menu in the world (seriously, go look for yourself). I paid $13.50 for this double cheeseburger combo with hardly any fries and a drink full of ice. Absolutely no ketchup either. mind you, a pastrami combo is $3 less. I don't get it. I don't get why the Uptown Whittier Association keeps these people here. I'm assuming it's favoritism i guess. But it's my own fault for coming here knowing what I'm going to get in the first place. I mean, I guess the reason for being so expensive is because they have to pay the 100 people that are in that kitchen working... I'll continue to go to Tam's or Douglas. Oh, and can someone please tell the owner lady to stop counting her register money in the middle of the kitchen. Every time! Then on top of that she'll start helping out by handling food without washing...
