My family and I arrived at Whataburger #435 on Sunday night July 30, 2023 at about 8:00 PM and went inside to order. There was one person in line in front of us. We noticed only 4 or 5 cars in the drive-through. It was not a long line. Also, the inside of the restaurant was less than half full. By no measure were they getting slammed or in the middle of a peak dining rush. We placed our order at 8:05 PM. Three #1 Whataburger Meals and one #10 Whatachick’n Meal. These were not special orders or anything unique, other than we requested two of the burgers with no onions. A simple order that should not have taken an unusual amount of time to prepare. After about 15 minutes, I went to check on our order and see how much longer it would be. The Assistant Manager said “they were putting the order together now and should be out shortly”. I stood and waited. At 8:25 the Assistant Manager said they were still waiting on the chicken sandwich. Twenty minutes after the order was placed and they were still working on the chicken sandwich (whatever that meant), while the burgers had been sitting there well over ten minutes getting cold and we had no idea how much longer we’d have to wait. At 8:27 I asked the Assistant Manager to cancel my order and give me a refund, which he did. A few things we noticed while we were waiting for twenty minutes: My wife wanted un-sweet tea, but both the un-sweet and sweet tea containers were empty. The napkin dispenser was empty. Two employees were on a break sitting in the dining area. They were completely out of fries and had several drive-through orders sitting and waiting for someone to put fries down. The Assistant Manager told the cashier to sweep behind the counter and under the freezer in a very disrespectful tone, like an Army Drill Sergeant barking an order. He did this in front of the customers waiting for their food. I was embarrassed for her and couldn’t believe he’d spoken to her that way. The Assistant Manager had time to casually talk to two other customers. It seemed they knew each other based on the conversation. He actually bragged about being much better than another Assistant Manager and how hard of a worker he was. He said he never asks for help because it’s quicker if he just does things himself. These conversations taking place while several customers were waiting over 20 minutes for their food. A lady who ordered before me was waiting for her food. I saw an employee put the last of her items in the bags and left the bags sitting on the back counter. The order was done, someone just needed to hand it to the lady. The bags sat there for four or five minutes before another employee looked at them, saw the order was ready to go out and then called the lady’s name and finally gave it to her. Read moreThe restaurant was clean,the service was great the staff was friendly and helpful the food was delicious and took us back to a time when food was fresh and the vegetables were very fresh. I notice things that most people don’t the windows were clean the ledge around them was clean no dust hanging from the ceiling no trash cans running over inside or outside parking lot clean and sidewalks were clean and in good shape. The restrooms were very clean and properly stocked. Above all this the young lady who helped us and took our order her name was Michelle was kind enough to tell me that she could change one of my orders to a meal and showed me how to increase the amount of food I had ordered. I really appreciate her help with that she was in training so her shift leader was standing right there with her but she was very helpful and a very sweet person. All of the staff was very helpful and friendly and clean and uniforms clean and neat their hair was properly groomed hands were clean. Another 10 minutes pass before I'm welcomed. I come around for my order at the window. Sitting behind another car that is waiting at the window for their food another 4 minutes, then another few minutes for my food. I asked for the manager, I was told her name is Melissa, if an accomodation or reimbursement or even an additional 10% be taken off my meal because it took over 30 minutes from time I arrived in line to the time I left the drive thru... This was 1:39AM -- 2:10AM. She If you want fast food, at ridiculously late hours, hit up Taco Bell or Wendy's, they are fast, friendly and usually rather efficient as well. If you enjoy waiting in long pickup lines at fast food restaurants, super slow worker's and overpriced food for the experience...
