I ate here last week with a couple of my friends. We eat here often and have always had a pleasant experience with food that is certainly nothing to complain about. This particular time, my vape pen (legally purchased from a smoke shop in Wichita) fell out of my bag, as I had accidentally left a hole in the zipper large enough for it to fall through. I didn’t notice until I couple of hours later, when I was at work. I called the location and spoke to a host, who said that he would check lost & found for me. The host came back on moments later, stating that they had the pen there in lost & found. I told the host that I would try to be in that day to grab it, but I wasn’t sure because of work. I went to the restaurant the next day and spoke to a manager, who was very kind & helpful, but could not locate the pen that was supposedly in lost & found the day before. After attempting to contact the host I spoke to, the manager told me to call back the next day. When I called again, I was informed that my server had accidentally taken the pen home in her apron pocket after finding it under my seat. While I was confused because this contradicted the statement the host gave me, which was that it was being kept in lost & found, I wasn’t upset. I just wanted my belongings back, since ya know, they’re mine. The host said the server would have the item back to the restaurant by the next day. So the next day, I went in and started talking to the host about the situation. Next thing I know, a grown man with a long, gray ponytail was standing a few feet away, throwing his arms up in exasperation. Evidently, he had been trying to get my attention, but with my focus being on the conversation I was having, coupled with the noise and bustle of the the busy post-church lunch, I had not heard him or noticed him until he was mid-hissy fit. When I noticed him, he waved and said, “Hi I’m the manager. Are you here about the illegal vape?” Right there. In front of customers and employees alike, this wildly unprofessional excuse of a “manager” who was not the same manager as the kind individual I had spoken to the first time, accused me of carrying an illegal substance. He laughed, like he had just successfully carried out the funniest joke in the world, and went to retrieve my property. Since he was so adamant on ensuring I felt uncomfortable during the interaction, I inquired as to how my property ended up in the employee’s home. The manager gave the same statement as before, and when I told him that the original host told me it was in lost & found, the manager shrugged and said, “That’s all I know,” and totally dismissed me. I have loved HomeGrown and have eaten there regularly for years. This rude manager has ensured that I no longer feel welcome or comfortable eating in that establishment. While I may be open to checking out another location in the future, I certainly won’t be returning to this one. I just don’t believe it is right for anybody to treat another human being that way, but especially a paying customer who has done literally nothing wrong. I was kind, patient, and understanding every step of the way until this guy got involved. He does not appear to have the emotional intelligence or endurance to work in food services, especially...
Read moreI'm rating the food 4 stars. Everything is far lower. This new location is far inferior to the original. It is very loud and service is very ho hum. I'm one person and they still require you to get on the wait list via the app even if you just want to sit at the bar. So this morning at 9:15 I get on the wait list. It tells me to check in at 11:05 so I arrive a bit early hoping that'd help. I stood in the lobby for about 55 minutes before it was my turn to be seated. The host who tells me my table is ready then tells me there's space at the bar if I'd like to sit there: it's open seating. If it was an option, couldn't they have told me that over the last hour instead of when my table was ready? It took me almost 3 hours today from when I got on the wait list to when I got seated and then was basically told it was unnecessary. That's just poor service. I could have been told during any of my previous visits that if it's just me and I do just want to sit at the bar, I can come right in. I could have been told today upon check in that I could have just sat the bar. It'd have saved me an hour. So that's kind of the baseline of what to expect service-wise. In addition, this location has inferior service. You basically get your food and then are left alone until your check is ready. I don't think there's an option to get hot sauce or ketchup or other condiments if you so desired. If you wanted something else, your server won't check in so make sure to order everything when initially asked. At least at the original location, service was fantastic and you could get condiments if you wanted them. This location is also very loud in comparison to the original and I've been at both when they're full or moderately busy. This location is always loud to the point where you can't really hear your server if they are talking in a normal voice. I imagine it's very difficult to hold a conversation with...
Read moreFood was great, Service from the waitress was great. It was bestie Brunch day! We had been anticipating going to try this place out. I drove from eastern Kansas and we had our brunch talking about how we will come back. I get my check, the waitress takes the check, runs my card, and we were enjoying sipping our last of the coffees and freshly pressed juices when the waitress comes up and explains she made a mistake. she gave us and swiped my card for another table's bill. well, now I owe 20 and some change for the rest of the proper bill.. She said I wasn't charged yet and I showed her that I was. she offered to get the manager. "Sam" came up to me and barked What is the problem? I explained that I authorized them to adjust the card or run for the remainder or pay the $20 dollar bill I had cash but I don't authorize them to run the additional bill plus what they already charged about 40 dollars worth. He kept touching me and when I pulled back and asked for space, he accused me of trying to get a free meal, threatened to call the police, & let me know I was not welcome at this establishment anymore. So sad because chasing away a customer over a mistake you guys made and making a huge scene is never a way to treat someone who only wanted to be charged for what they ordered. Likely this was only caught when the other table got our bill and was like woah! we didn't get 60 dollars of food. This manager ruined our day and had no right to accuse me, the paying party of trying to get "a free meal" because I didn't want to be charged for both transactions. managers are there for DE-escalation and Not to be a bouncer and kick people out for wanting a solution to a problem their staff may have unintentionally caused but,...
