We stopped in to Lunas for a late lunch this weekend. I ordered their pasta diablo and my partner ordered the carbonara. We also ordered cocktails. My partner's melon margarita was served in a salted pint glass. I've had a few margaritas in my time and only in the least desirable places have I been served a margarita in a pint glass (plastic cup for equally professional consideration). Lunas has a full bar BTW. I'm not sure what they're thinking. On to the pasta. My diablo was delicious. I'm used to this dish served with standard penne and a healthy amount of spicy sauce. Luna's recipe doesn't offer much sauce and it packs a skinny version of penne. That's not to knock their dish. It works and I'd order it again. Their carabonara, on the other hand, did not meet the mark. By that I mean, what they serve does not meet the definition of what carabonara is suppose to be. The dish certainly does have some variations depending on where you go but Luna pushes that boundary beyond an acceptable format for the title. Luna serves a plate of macaroni with peas and mushrooms for their version of carabonara. It's not way off the mark, but I don't think it should be called carabonara. It's an okay dish. They serve it a little on the spicy side. But they should consider calling it something else. Like what it is: macaroni with peas and mushrooms! In the end, the manager didn't charge us for the dish. The service was polite, professional, and courteous. The interior is stylish and comfortable and it looked like they have outdoor patio seating for when it gets warmer. I'd like to stop over again for some cocktails and appetizers on a warm...
Read moreI have been bragging about this place to my husband for over 2 years. I usually meet up with my girlfriends here. So tonight for our anniversary we decided this is where we would go. I was so excited for him to try the six cheese pasta. The host tried to sit us specifically where I asked not to be sat. Then the waitress was very abrupt. When I asked for a few moments to review the drink menu etc she kept asking questions. I finally had to say he has never been here. come back in one minute. Then I ordered my wine, I repeated it twice and then because she seemed confused pointed to it. It was on the WHITE wine list. She brings me a red of some kind and when I said it was wrong she argued with me and I said it is red I ordered a white. Our appetizer came out and was only there about 2 minutes and she brings our entrees. Pauses and says is it ok to bring these so fast? Like if we said no would they have left them under heat lamps? The food was good. Usually is. portions have gotten smaller in the last year. Skimpier on the ingredients. I do not mind paying a fair or even higher price for a dinner but it needs to be worth its value. The waitress also mid dinner came up behind me and asked in a hurried and fairly loud tone if all was ok. It was jarring. The table we picked had some privacy with a window shade, that half way through dinner they opened and we were sitting next to 2 people on the patio like I felt we were at the same table all the sudden. The food was good and with my husband as company was the only saving factor to our...
Read moreI have been a long time fan. Recently however that has changed. My last 3 visits have been disappointing. Three or four months ago I ordered a green bean and mushroom side with my meal and it came out with couscous. When i asked for it to be corrected the waiter argued with me and told me it was green beans and mushrooms and wouldn't change it. I'm not a chef but I can tell the difference between the two dishes as i expect most people could. They're not really similar. The next visit I ordered a Jack and 7. I've been ordering it this way for nearly 50 years in all kinds of bars and eateries and can't remember a single problem. My server brought the 7 up (Sierra mist) as a soft drink in a typical soft drink glass. When i questioned this she said she didn't know what jack and 7 meant. I explained it was a cocktail made of Jack Daniels mixed with 7-up. Her reply was "I'll ask the bartender and see if we can make that. Tonight, the third recent visit, I had the chicken scalopini. The sauce was horrible. Tasted like someone poured chicken broth over the noodles. I have had this dish there in the past and the sauce was rich and creamy with excellent flavor. Tonight the sauce was thin, the fats had separated into little pools and the flavor was not anything like what it has been. Despite the good history i have at this restaurant i believe the 3rd time was the charm. I won't...
