It brings great displeasure writing this review as I (and my family) am a repeat costumer but the shameful conduct of the only manager present warrants this review. So long as this manager oversees all of the employees present at this location, I would stay completely clear of here unless you are looking for aggression and drama, and not a meal.
I went for brunch on Father’s Day and was seated outside due to lack of seating inside. All patrons outside had an umbrella open as it was a hot humid morning. I requested the waiter open the umbrella and he respectfully did. While getting food at the brunch buffet, a random individual (or so they are at this time) sneakily and inappropriately goes to my table and closes the umbrella while everyone else has their umbrella open. Upon return to my table I began questioning why the umbrella was closed mysteriously on this hot day. At this moment I start feeling unwelcome as I was unsure why someone would close the umbrella in these circumstances. I proceed to reopen the umbrella as I have a toddler with me and no toddler wants to be in direct sunlight on a hot day. Mind you, nobody has stated why the umbrella was closed at this point.
A minute passes by and this random individual then comes over and reaches over all of our plated food and starts closing the umbrella. This person does not introduce themselves nor are they wearing attire suitable to be working at a “fine dining” restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter. This individual has a timid yet passively aggressive outburst stating “umbrellas cannot be open due to weather and I closed this earlier while you weren’t at the table” (mind you every other seated table has an open umbrella). The individual then walks away. I have no clue who this person is until the waiter has to come over and apologize for their behavior. My initial thought is this is some crazed person who’s goal was to harass patrons due to a recent bad experience in the restaurant. The waiter sees this occur and comes over to apologize. I ask if there is a manger I can speak to and the rude individual returns stating they are the manager.
This person does not have communication skills, a positive attitude, does not have professionalism. Their dialogue was delayed and short making me even more uncomfortable. I ask if a table inside is possible for a rudimentary “no”. This individual, Adrian, then walks off and turns around realizing that they have made our experience absolutely terrible and asks if we’d like a more shaded table outside.
At this point other patrons are commenting, with their umbrellas open, that how she handled this was beyond ridiculous.
No apologies were made (aside from the waiter), issues were hardly resolved, hardly any eye contact was even made during the dialogue with the manager. Our $50 a meal per person was ruined as we could not eat after an ALTERCATION this; could not enjoy the food matters less eat and had to eat elsewhere...
Read moreFirst time here after great reviews from friends and social media. The ambiance was nice and a great place to go on a date. Me and my girlfriend went here for lunch and had a dozen oysters, lobster bisque, and the clam chowder for appetizers to start. I chose the lobster roll for my main and my girlfriend had the lobster Benedict. First off the soups were very good and I really liked the lobster bisque and the clam chowder was pretty good as well. My girlfriend had never tried shucked oysters and being from Florida I tend to think I know how they should taste and showed her the proper way to enjoy them...and this place did not disappoint!! The oyster came with all the proper condiments like mignonette sauce, lemon wedges and cocktail sauce. I am so glad my girlfriend liked them a lot and she wanted to have a dozen for herself for next time. I had the lobster roll and It was ok. It came on a small roll which I hoped was slightly toasted which it was not and the taste was a little bland for my liking. The lobster meat was definitely there but for the money, it seems almost right for a fine restaurant like this. My girlfriend had the lobster Benedict and I wish I had gotten that instead. It was so good with a descent amount of lumped lobster on top of both. She did show me that one of the eggs was under-poached and the clear albumin was still slightly present and the yolk was very runny and not gooey as it should be as she cut into it. At least one was perfect and at this time, we were pretty full from what we had and did not complain about this single incident. Our server, Jessica, was wonderful as well as the rest of the servers and staff that helped us with the little things during our visit here. The reviews that I read about “not being that good”, was not seen here and I enjoyed the service the most. I am definitely coming back some day for dinner and hope to get the same service as we did for our...
Read moreAs you would expect, and appreciate, the food here is extremely well prepared. Perfectly cooked and artfully presented, you absolutely get your money's worth at the Newport Grill.
If the weather is nice, go for the patio seating. The views are gorgeous with manicure grass, surrounding a small pond with a decorative island in the middle of it.
On Friday nights (maybe other nights as well? ) there's live music, which was nice and soft in the background, and didn't overwhelm the evening by drowning out our table conversation.
The appetizer was delicious. Little medallions of perfectly seasoned beef surrounded by a red beet hummus that you ate with pita triangles
I had the salmon, medium rare, on a bed of pickled red cabbage and a balsamic and pomegranate(?) reduction and pine nuts, with three little ravioli pillows holding up the salmon.
We also had the lobster salad, which my table mate enjoyed a lot. Personally, I'm from New England and prefer my lobster hot. For me, lobster loses too much flavor when it's served refrigerated, but that's definitely a personal preference.
For desert, we split the "Peaches and Cream," which it definitely was not. This desert is a base of a white ganache with a layer of sweetened brown ground corn meal or flakes covered in a white chocolate dome. There were a couple of dollops of whipped cream and three small slices of soft peaches, which were the best part of the desert. It was attractive, but wasn't what I was expecting, so next time I'll opt for something different.
Overall it was a wonderful experience and the staff were all very pleasant and accommodating, from the maitre d', to the hostess that seated us, to the staff who bussed our table, and of course our waitress. All wonderful contributing to a really great and fulfilling experience.
Great for a date...
