We came in right before it got busy and we were nervous about this place. Loved the fact that almost everything was done in wood. We ordered our food and the waitress was decent. Whilst waiting for our sandwiches, the restaurant (I use the term loosely) started filling up with with people much older. Middle aged men trying to flirt with the bartendresses, who were the same age, while drinking too much. My wife's burger was big. Huge bun, large lettuce and tomato, very small and thin meat patty for $9. I got a fish sandwich which was nice and thick. Then I tasted it. Tasted like burnt oil and the fish, tho heavily fried in batter, fell apart. Half of the sandwich fell apart before I could eat it. $10 for that. We ordered chili cheese fries and the actual fries weren't half bad. The chili was watery and was more like goulash with beans. We were subject to hearing the waitstaff complain about each other and the regular guests. My wife and I were apparently in a booth another couple usually sits in. They were throwing a tantrum of unexpected proportions for two 70-something senior citizens. I really got a vibe from the place that they wanted to stay in 1985 and everyone need go elsewhere. I doubt I will ever step foot in that over-priced...
Read moreOne visit can change everything. I have been to Walt's many times and have generally been very happy with my experience. The food has mostly been pretty good and atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. However my last visit there has insured that I will no go back.
The evening before my fiancé goes into surgery myself my daughter and her decide to stop and have a relaxing time before dealing with a stressful event. When the waiter arrives we ask if he can wipe the table because there was still bits of food from the pervious customer. While our waiter did sort of wipe at the table he did so without comment and we all felt that he was offended by this request. We ordered fried mushrooms and 2 entrees and he tells us there will be a charge to share. (I have never had a charge for sharing a plate in the past) I made the comment that the mushrooms should serve as our third entrée. That was followed by and off colored comment about cheating the system. Maybe this was a one off but the impression...
Read moreWalt's is a Wichita Staple and for years I have heard people say, we're going to Walt's tonight. I had never had the occasion to visit, so when some coworkers said, hey we're going to Walt's for lunch, I was anxious to tag along. We arrived for lunch at noon on a Friday and it was nearly full. They found a spot for our party in a little adjacent room, which was very accommodating, but I probably didn't to experience the full Walt's "Cheers" vibe. I had heard they were know for their burgers so I was excited to try the Walt's Classic (since 1947). I wish I would have had the fish and chips lunch special instead. The burger was not great at all. I can easily name 10 places in the areas that do better burgers every day. My colleagues we all pretty happy with their dishes, so I think overall lunch was enjoyable. The service was very good and I am sure that if I wanted to hang out in the evenings with a few pals and some beer, Walt's would be a...
