What was supposed to be a wonderful evening was a disaster. Our reservations were for 5pm as we had a tour booked for 8pm, thinking 3 hours would be sufficient time to dine. Wrong! It took about an hour for our party to be served drinks, each drink being served one at a time. Our entrees were served much the same way, one at a time, about an hour after the drinks....so now we were creeping up on 7pm, getting close to our tour time. To make matters worse, the food was only fair. I had the brisket burger which I ordered medium; the description on the menu sounded delicious. It was awful. Well done and charred. Tough and burned. I would have sent it back, but the service was so slow I did not want to go through more wait time. My husband ordered chicken and finally received it, 20 minutes after all of us were served. It was missing a corn side but at that point, we just wanted out! To further our annoyance, the bottle of wine we had ordered ended up being poured into someone else's wine glass. At 7:50pm several of us left to go beg the tour operator to hold the starting time which she, understandingly, was not able to do. All of our bills were incorrect! Half of our party stayed and had to write down what they and their spouse had ordered. At 8:30 the disastrous night ended....some never made the tour. In fairness, the manager was courteous. He removed everyone's gratuity and did comp my husband's chicken dinner and poured him another glass of the mispoured wine. That whole night should have been comped for everyone. Management needs to manage their kitchen and waitstaff better. 3 and 1/2 hours with total bill chaos at the end caused undue dining stress. And what about the dollars we paid...for a tour that some of us were not able to make? Heads up Management!!! And heads up, future diners....think twice...
Read moreThis was one of the more disappointing dining experiences that my wife and I have had. We went for the Sunday Brunch. The restaurant has an upscale, elegant Colonial look. Some time after being seated, a young lady took our drink order (coffee for me and a ginger-carrot juice for my wife). It turned out that she was not our server. The brunch consisted of three courses. My wife began with a strawberry, corn, and avocado salad. It was supposed to come with a Green Goddess dressing, but was served with some sort of warm vinaigrette that wilted the lettuce, making the texture unpleasant. I had the corn/crab chowder. This was okay, but they put bacon in it, which overpowered the crab. She ordered the Crab Oscar Eggs Benedict. This was supposed to come served on an English Muffin, but was instead on sourdough toast, which was so tough that it was hard to cut with a steak knife. It was also piled with Arugula, the bitterness of which which totally overpowered the flavor of the crab. I had the Herb Roasted Beef Tenderloin. I ordered it medium rare, which they got right. Unfortunately, it was tough and dry (and fairly flavorless). It had a small dribble of Bearnaise sauce. Of the three medallions, I was able to eat one before giving up. The potatoes seemed undercooked. The dessert tray was decent. The waiter kept confusing my wife and my orders, giving them to the wrong person threeorfourtimes. My wife waited about twenty minutes before having to ask again for her juice. The service was generally inattentive for the caliber of restaurant that this is supposed to be. All of this for around...
Read moreHorrible experience. On vacation staying at the Griffin. Had dinner on March 8th. We were given a small piece of bread when we sat down and asked what type of water we wanted, we picked sparkling. I was surprised we were charged for it? We ordered drinks which took awhile to come. For refills we finally went to the bar. This got the attention of the manager. He was apologetic and provided us with wine for the rest of the service. Ordered food. A turkey pot pie and pistachio crusted salmon. It took a very long for the food to arrive. Finally asked for another piece of bread. The pistachio crusted salmon looked and tasted ok . The pot pie was very disappointing. A banquet pot pie had more filling and taste than what I ordered. The dish came in a SMALL ramekin with a cookie sized piece of puff pastry on top. The price was 39.00! The salmon was 45.00. Neither dish came close to that level. I did ask the manager if he felt that it was worth that money and he just shook his head. The table next to ours had one person who ordered a salad and did not get it until all five of the other guests had finished their meal. We were offered dessert free and they did take the pot pie off the bill as I did not finish the dish. I love food and do not mind paying for food that rises to the standard being charged. This did not. The waitress we had was nice but had way too...
