Part of the Williamsburg Inn, The Market Square Tavern is one of the tavern boarding house options on the property that allows guests to stay within the pedestrian-only confines of Colonial Williamsburg, directly on the “East Duke of Gloucester Street”. The house has rooms on two stories and a common room for guests that are approximations of the type of guest quarters available in the 18th century.
While rustic, the rooms are comfortable and offer the usual 21st century comforts of electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, and coffee makers. The main downside is sound proofing. The building can be noisy and you can hear other guests and staff in adjoining rooms and the hallways. You also need to walk in with your luggage. You can park nearby but it’s about 200 ft. from the lot to your room, and there may be stairs. While not as luxurious as the rooms located within the hotel, the Tavern Houses are more affordable and provide access to all of the Inn’s amenities including their pool and spa.

We stayed in the Market Square Tavern, right on Duke od Gloucester and right across from Chowning's Tavern. Our room is on the second floor and is fabulous!
