The seating and ordering process is a SNAFU. The brisket, I am sure was just sliced Boston butt, there was no smokeline in it, The ribs tasted literally like Chinese restaurant Cherry sauce drenched flavorless meat, I am certain my waitress said my Ribs were still in the "fryer"!? when she brought out my food. ALL of the meat tasted like it was baked over flaming bandaids, Now 20 mins later I have the aftertaste as if I had chewed burned charcoal.
I have had worse Barbecue, but not by much. Save your money and drive the extra 25 mins to Mutts, or just about any other place.
Maybe its because I was raised under the cookings of the likes of Maurice, Joe, and Melvin Bessengers in Charleston, and Wards in Sumpter.
The atmosphere is terrible, the room is small, overcrowded and VERY LOUD.
If you think this is good Barbecue, you have NO IDEA what good Barbecue is. You might as well pick up a 2-gallon bucket from the grocery store, you will be just as happy. Probably happier!
Still though, it's not the worst I have ever had, compared to say a gas station Barbecue.
Edit: Rebuttal: In response to the standard cookie cutter response. I did not assume you would change out all of the coals in the smoker and recook the meat just for me, and at that point I really didnt have 4-8 hours or more to wait for you to recook everything. I have been too 2 other Smokin pig locations, the Williamston location is the only one that sucks. The new on in anderson is maybe 4 out of 5 stars. I was also told by fomrer employees who worked there that you staff a bunch of teenagers and that they do nasty stuff to the food at...
Read moreOur family stopped in for dinner as we had heard about this place from friends of ours.
It’s pretty small but has a bunch of tables for its size. Typical ordering at the counter and go find your seat. You may want to have someone go hold a table while you wait in line to order as it fills up fast around dinner time.
I ordered the Brisket and Rib plate with max and cheese and collards. The brisket was really good. I don’t say that often but it was. I had the dry run ribs and although the flavor was ok, they were a tad over cooked. The meat would fall of the bone when you bite into it.
The Mac and cheese was bland and not very good. I would think it would have some seasoning in it but it didn’t appear to.
The collards were ok. Not the best I’ve had but manageable.
The corn bread was excellent. Not overly sweet and very moist.
I have to say this is one of the good ones. If you like good Texas style bbq you will...
Read moreMy husband and I are somewhat BBQ snobs. We smoke our own all year long, make rubs and sauces, and never stop watching BBQ shows. We've even planned vacations around BBQ places we could stop and eat. With that in mind, we often have high expectations and this was not a disappointment. We tried ribs, chopped chicken, sliced brisket, and pulled pork. All were good. I'm normally a pork person, but the chicken was so good I can't wait to go back for more. The ribs were a little too sauced for my liking, but that's just preference. They were still good and I'd eat them again. The Mac and cheese wasn't great, but the baked beans, sweet potato crunch, and banana pudding we're all really good! Even the roll was great lol. We're planning to go back soon. I'm dinging 1 star because I can't believe a BBQ place doesn't have Mac and cheese every time they're open, and because it wasn't the best, but again, everything...
