In a time where everyone seems to be cutting back and charging more, it's so nice to experience a place that is not doing that, in fact they are doing the exact opposite! After missing this place for a few months now, I finally made an attempt to order my all time favorite dish, Shrimp Pad Thai! Holy Cow Batman, this was off the chain delicious! Everyone thinks they can make Pad Thai, but only a few succeed and they do and then some. All the ingredients were fresh and every attention to detail was there, not just putting hot sauce on some noodles, (like most places), I was in heaven with each and every bit down to the crumbs at the end. I used my out of this world Spring Roll to soak up any remaining juices left at the bottom of the bowl. My wife got the Chicken Pad Thai and she was just as impressed! I would have gotten the Basil Fresh Rolls, but after using the rice paper for my horror movie, "Do No Harm," she refuses to eat anything using rice paper. (That's another story!) To get something that we could both eat and enjoy I opted for the Spring Rolls and once again they did not disappoint! The rolls themselves were delicious, but the sauce was in a class all by itself's. It was both hot and sweet, the perfect combo, but wait there is more! As I waited for my To-Go order I was offered some complimentary Egg Drop Soup and it was soooo good! If that was not enough, she offered to give me more to take home to my wife! Are you kidding me? These folks know how to treat people and give you so much bang for your buck! All I've been thinking about today is going back to try something else! It's not often I find a place that I think about the next day after eating there, this is so great, because they are so close to where I live and not having much Vegan options in Wilmington for me, this is a place made just for me! I can't wait to try all their many options on the menu. As always I end my reviews with "what would I play for these folks?" Well, my entire catalog! They had me at Kapow Thai when I walked into the door. I would like to recommend a favorite of mine that I could hear playing over the speakers while I might dine inside, it's from my album, "When Words Aren't Enough," Take the Time. I think that song captures the vibe of the wonderful place that I will not call my favorite place in Wilmington! Please do yourself a favor and...
Read moreI went here after moving to Wilmington. I was excited to see all the positive reviews. The location is nice, the staff is kind, the restaurant is simple but clean. I ordered masaman curry with chicken as it is gluten free. My friend ordered pad prik khing with chicken. Having to eat gluten free I am used to slightly disappointing food but as Thai food naturally has a lot of gluten free options it’s usually always good even if it’s not authentic.
My curry was an oily, salty mess. It had exactly 2 pieces of potato in it, some huge carrot chunks, about 5-6 pieces of chicken and about an entire onion. I can get over that as I LOVE onion. Until I bit into one that tasted like fish?? There were oil/grease dots on top of the curry, which was the consistency of broth. Masaman curry at any other place is typically a creamy curry. This one has no creaminess. It tasted of pure salt. The rice was overcooked. I thought it was just mine that was bad, but my friend couldn’t eat hers either as she claimed hers was extremely salty as well. We were extremely disappointed. The staff did not really check on us after the food came out. It’s as if they were aware we were super disappointed. The food was overall inedible if you care about taste. I just wish I had taken a picture of the oil spots on the curry to post with this review.
I have a place I eat at for Thai food, very authentic and the chef/owner is from Thailand. I will continue to drive 2+ hours to eat at his establishment instead of this one which is 20 minutes from...
Read moreOverall a good experience and would come back. Summer rolls, Pad thai, Khao Soi, and mango sticky rice were all delicious and portions were great. The ambiance inside was very nice. We had a party of two and got seated right away. It is a small location so a larger group might need to wait a little.
Docked a star because the service was nice but hospitality was lacking. We ordered the “chili seasoning” on the edamame and they dumped enough chili oil on it to kill a small elephant. They then charged us for a replacement and said “if you want light oil next time tell your server”. I get chili oil added to my edamame everywhere I go that offers it and I like spicy food - I’ve never had it drenched to the point where it was unbearable. A replacement should have been comped or at least told in advance “hey our chili oil is a 20 out of 10 spiciness”. Also had to hear the hostess (who was also our server) arguing with a takeout customer for like 10 minutes about a $1 sauce he forgot to add and they wouldn’t take card to add it. Just give the man a sauce or charge him for two to cover the credit card fees. . . I doubt that guy will come back and it was annoying to overhear that during our dinner (our table was very close to the hostess stand).
I wouldn’t let our experience with the service deter you from trying this place though. Great food...
