La Costa Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Wilmington

I’ve been going here once a week for a solid eleven months and I’ve never been disappointed! Food here is top notch, the Mexican salad with my cheese quesadilla is just divine! It’s such a delicious appetizer while waiting for the food to cool down. And good god the salsa and chips? It’s enough to make a horrible day turn absolutely amazing.. it’s so good and tasty.

The service is excellent! The waitresses are so polite, while they don’t speak very good English so sometimes miscommunications happen, it’s absolutely okay because all of them are such sweet people. They always ask if I want a refill on chips or my drink but aren’t pushy/harassing me over it. They don’t rush you out the door either so the restaurant really feels like a homey experience. Prices are good, but be aware this will get rather expensive if you order more than one dish.

The atmosphere is absolutely great, it always somehow feels nostalgic even though I go so often. It’s never too loud nor too quiet and honestly I enjoy the Mexican music playing, unlike most restaurants it’s not loud so you can easily talk over it. It honestly is the most authentic Mexican joint I’ve ever been too I literally feel like I go to Mexico when I go here.

If you’re a newcomer I think you’ll enjoy it, but once you become a regular you REALLY enjoy it. Only bad thing I have to say about it is that it’s ADDICTIVE I swear I want to go every day but I can’t do it but god how I wish I could....

When you get a burrito, and you can't tell if the meat is pork or chicken or really what meat it is, that is not a good sign. Took 10 minutes to be greeted to get a drink. 15 more minutes to get chips and salsa. 45 minutes to see someone again for an entree. Once entree is served, you don't get checked on again until its time to deliver a check. When waiter took my not eaten plate away, I told him it was not good, he didnt apologize or anything. He then proceeded to bring me the check with the burrito I didn't eat still on it!! If someone had checked on us (like our waiter) before the check was delivered (1.5 hours later), maybe I could have let him know. We go to checkout to reference the burrito not being good and still on our bill, 3 staff members come over to argue that no one complains about their recipe. And, arguing with an already hungry and displeased customer is not good customer service. I have eaten at 25+ Mexican restaurants across the country including in Mexico and other Latin American countries, and this was the poorest quality food and service I have ever had! I had a bad experience here recently. Me and my daughter stopped here to eat. We had already placed our orders for food, then my daughter asks me to go to the bathroom. Since I don't trust allow my daughter to go public bathrooms alone I went with her. And unfortunately when we came back from the bathroom our table was clean! Drinks gone, paper and crayons my daughter was drawing on was gone. Even the couple next to us was wondering what was going on and I told them we just went to the bathroom. When I finally made eye contact with one of the waitresses, I asked her why did you move our drinks and stuff? And her response was "it could be replaced". I felt that she couldn't give me a straight answer because she didn't want us at this establishment. So I politely declined the replaced drinks and we left. Hope this review helps others and since I didn't get to try the food, this rating is based solely on the service that was given to me and my child.
