Prior to this evening, I had not heard about Whiskey Trail Pub and Grill in Midtown. I was thinking of going with another place for a burger, but the burger selection on WTPG's menu had me wanting to try something and some place lesser-known in the area.
FOOD: Channel Haven Burger (Grilled mushrooms and onions, Gorgonzola crumbles, chipotle mayo on a brioche roll.) with side of Beer-Battered Onion Rings. The aroma from the Gorgonzola and the faint scent of beer from the hot onion rings, seeping from the take-out container, seemed very promising. Taste, however...said something entirely different. To summarize the entire meal? Bland. Very bland and just meh. The brioche roll was soft and wonderful, but was dense and significantly thicker than the burger patty, thus, drowning out the burger. The chipotle mayo sauce also seemed to get lost in the sandwich. When I think of anything Chipotle, I think of some spice and heat. I tasted no heat, whatsoever, and felt that it's only purpose was to add some moisture to the sandwich. The grilled mushrooms and onions were prepared nicely and the Gorgonzola cheese was as expected. The burger just fell flat, which was so disappointing. There seemed to be little to no char on the patty, it lacked serious seasoning but it was cooked medium-well, as ordered. The onion rings also had almost zero seasoning and flavor. The golden beer batter had a nice crunch, but all I could taste with each and every bite, was the sweetness of the thick rings of onion, themselves...nothing more. The lack of seasoning, coupled with no side dipping sauce for the rings, resembled large chunks of the Bloomin' Onion from Outback Steakhouse but not nearly as tasty. If I'm being 100% honest with you and myself, I wish I would have chosen to order from another place, altogether. I did not enjoy this meal. SCORE: 2 STARS!!
SERVICE: With a $0.49 delivery special through Grub Hub on Yelp!, I took advantage so that I could relax at home. Ordering was effortless, the food was prepared and presented perfectly and it arrived on time, fresh and hot by the delivery driver. Everything went well. SCORE: 5 STARS!!
OVERALL SCORE: I had such high hopes after seeing Whiskey Trail Pub's menu and creations. What I tasted was disappointing and forgettable. There are so many things I would recommend to add, change or modify that could have helped make this meal decent, but I'm not the Chef. Giving more weight to the food and the $42 and change I paid for my wife and I's burgers (she was equally as disappointed)... 2.7 STARS!!

Read moreWhiskey Trail is a bar and game room with tables and plenty of televisions for your sports game needs. On Tuesdays they host a trivia night which is fairly entertaining. For college students living less than a few yards away it's likely ideal. It also has a game room in the back with two pool tables, air hockey, a foosball table, and hand shuffleboard. A great draw for a family especially since they advertise that kids eat free from 4p-7p.
Typical bar style, it's the first thing you see walking in with only 4 seater high top tables. No way you're actually going to be able to feed a toddler or reach your infant. Since it's a bar, one would assume this isn't the best atmosphere for that age group anyway and one would be right. Even for our 8-year-olds, it was hard to sit on the chairs without leaning on the unsteady albeit attractive table. Take care to only order salads OR meals on the OPPOSITE side of the menu otherwise, the kids won't eat free. Pierogi's which has it's own section on the front are NOT considered a full priced meal despite boasting full prices of $12+. We learned this unpleasantly at the end of the night when we received the check.
The food was oversalted, even according to the kids who usually love salt. If you love salads, you'll get at least 500+ calories as these are enormous! The fried green tomatoes were the highlight of the night. The pierogis themselves were excellent but the toppings could detract. The pork belly topping on mine was just too salty and sweet at the same time.
Finally, the service was abysmal. Granted, a member of our party came late, it took 20 minutes after being first acknowledged for his order to be taken only after flagging someone down. The waistaff crowded behind the bar focusing on those patrons even with a full front of house. Only checked upon once, we had to flag a member of staff down for every need, from cutlery to ketchup.
If you want to drink and game, this place is just fine, but if you're a family or want a meal, you may want to skip...
Read moreWe’ve been regulars at this bar for nearly two years, drawn in by the convenient location and the fun trivia and bingo nights. Unfortunately, the quality of service has taken a steep decline in recent months. If you're seated at a table rather than the bar, be prepared to struggle for attention—it's become a consistent issue to get basic service without repeatedly flagging someone down. Even more disappointing is the attitude of the staff. It’s a small place with the same few servers, and over time, their demeanor toward us has gone from indifferent to outright rude. One server in particular, Mary, has been especially unpleasant. Despite us always being polite and tipping well, her behavior has been consistently hostile. The final straw came during our last visit, when we simply asked for clarification about our bill. Instead of explaining, she immediately became defensive and raised her voice, clearly irritated by the question. The escalation was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. After nearly two years of being loyal patrons, we've made the decision not to return. It's unfortunate, but the consistently poor and disrespectful service has made it impossible to justify continuing to support this business. We’d advise others to think twice before spending time...
