Don't waffle, get to Goody Goody for some good Southern eatin'! 😋 Located in Wilmington, NC, close to the airport and a stone's throw from Michael Jordan's childhood home, Goody's serves up short-order diner favorites efficiently, flavorfully, and with a smile. 😁 With only 6 sit-down tables and about 10 spots at the bustling counter by the grill, you may need to wait like the locals do. But, if so, your love for Southern cooking 🍳 will thank you. The entire staff is very welcoming & friendly. The one family waiting in line outside the front door happily let us pass and directed us to 2 open seats at the counter. We arrived for a late breakfast after the morning rush. The menu was chock full of breakfast favorites, from pancakes 🥞 and waffles 🧇, to eggs 🍳, omelettes, biscuits, specialty hash browns, and even liver pudding. We ordered the peaches 🍑 and cheese 🧀 omelette, which, as advertised, was soft & fluffy as a cloud and richly flavorful, with tangy grilled peaches combined with gooey, savory Swiss cheese. The homemade biscuits are baked to perfection and can't be found at corporate restaurants. The fruit-topped pancakes topped with peaches & whipped cream were excellent, too. 👌 Just as impressive as the food was the warm, friendly, family-like atmosphere. The whole staff worked together as a team like a well-oiled machine. The patrons were happy. The wait staff were smiling. The cooks took pride in their work, efficiently cranking out orders and keeping their respective stations clean each step of the way. Overall, "Just Good Food", just the same way,...
Read moreCame here again recently with my wife on the way back to New York from the beach in North Carolina. It is a Wilmington legend and I vaguely remember going as a kid. Their claim to fame is their super fluffy omelet, made with milk and beaten in a milkshake machine. I got the peaches and cheese omelet which I loved; my wife got the vegetable omelette which she liked but didn’t love because the vegetables were cooked on the flattop and then added to the already cooked omelet. Because the omelet is such a pillowy thick masterpiece already, it didn’t fold very well around the vegetables and they ended up spilling on the plate in a pile.
While I enjoyed the food, the best thing by far about this place is the staff. It has been in the same family for three generations and the current owner is such a nice guy. The cooks were cool as hell, too. One of them asked me about a shirt I had on for the band Blue Cheer and it turned into a 15 minute convo about his favorite band: Hawkwind!
Very nice folks, good food, good prices.
Before I finish, just a reminder that it is cash only (though they...
Read moreCash Only Awesome diner experience, if you know me you know I love the authentic feel of a real breakfast diner. Let me say this one is great. You can really tell that love is in the food and the workers really enjoy what they do. Great food along with great stories in this cash only weekend Omelette house. The eggs 🍳 were cooked to an over easy perfection, the sausage tasted like some good local sausage, bacon 🥓 ohh so juicy but yet crunchy greasy goodness, the omelette STUFFED packed with ham and cheese, the coffee ☕ tasted like grandma made it in the morning because they still make it the old way. One small detail I noticed was also they give you four half's of toast as an order where as most diners give you only two. As for the price 💰 it really wasn't too bad. I mean it's a tad bit higher than waffle House but to compare I'd say around a dollar or two more per meal. The only negative things I can say is they are not open often, they only take cash, and it is tiny inside. I would highly recommend checking out Goody Goody...
