Without a doubt our favorite upscale cocktail bar in Wilmington. The Starling is a masterpiece between the atmosphere, concept, cocktails, and bartenders. Never been? Let me paint a picture for you: imagine a shipping container that once inside transports you to a land of luxury, whiskey, and wine. Not sure what else you could ask for. The owners, Matt & Abbye, are the finest folks who support their community and take care of everyone like family. All of the bartenders (Kaley, Bex, Echo, Justin, and Carly) are literally some of the most talented in Wilmington, slinging insane amounts of cocktails for lines of people out of a tiny container. It’s insane what they do, but it makes me crave the delicious concoctions they create. They’re also always the nicest and most accommodating bartenders, making us feel right at home every time we visit! I can’t recommend The Starling enough to anyone visiting The Cargo District.

Starling was such a gracious hosted to us at an event this past weekend. Our attendees could not stop gushing about the décor and style of this whiskey and Wine bar in the cargo district. The bar staff and owners were organized, tidy and professional as they made us all feel welcome and made us delicious refreshments. I recommend you check out this place for your next outdoor venue. Close to food and shopping, it’s the perfect place to stop in for a creative mixed adult beverage with the best quality ingredients.

Walking in Chucktown, a parade starts to happen behind us. We still need coffee, and find our way here. Basically, the Motorcycke Drill Team made enough noise to have us vacate the street. This place in in a Hotel, overlooks the street, and the bar cleared out once people start hearing the parade. Decent food, coffee, drinks, etc.. The pool deck is about 7 feet above the sidewalk, offering a great and private view of the street.

I’m a bartender in Brooklyn, and I’ve gotten used to a certain level of bar experience because of how blessed new York is with truly incredible bars on almost every block. I always spend some of the year in Wilmington, and to have a bar in my hometown that not only matches but rivals my favorite bars in NYC is something I do not take for granted. You can tell that the staff and ownership eat sleep and breathe cocktails, with truly beautiful seasonal options and an INCREDIBLE whiskey selection. It isn’t priced exactly like most bars in Wilmington - but you aren’t getting the kind of quality and service you get at most Wilmington bars, the stock and menu are way more akin to a high end bar in a major city. I make a point to stop by every single time I’m in the ILM because it’s just that good. Really happy to see Wilmington changing and growing with amazing local offerings...

I was fortunate that when I first moved to the area The Starling Bar was recommended to me by another bartender, and there are so many reasons I keep coming back. The friendly and knowledgeable bartenders (not just about their available alcohols, but also general bartending knowledge), the really lovely staple drinks on their menu, plus the carefully tested and curated drinks on their seasonal menu. The vibe is relaxed, dog friendly (to well behaved dogs - huge plus for me because I love giving pets!), and the rooftop bar has a great view. They also have events paired with other local vendors (looking at you wine and pizza night, guest bartenders, and music bingo) and everyone is genuinely nice. If you haven't given them a try, I highly suggest it, especially if you are looking for a different feel than a...
