Generally very good food, unusual dishes like the kale/quinoa bowls or eggplant fries, more expensive than you'd expect.
Mostly good service but not always. Our last outing here was totally ruined by one waitress carelessly getting our order wrong (why write it down when you can roll the dice with how you remember it?). We get our dishes, my wife's is correct, mine is wrong and the waitress insists on arguing she heard me say chicken, although I never order chicken when fish is available. I'm willing to take it just so we can enjoy a nice dinner out eating together when another waitress implies she just picked up the wrong order. So I agree to get my original order, which arrives about 40 minutes later.
All they had to do was mention "your wife can eat by herself and half an hour later your food will come out and you can eat by yourself".
Upshot: good food but absolutely avoid this place if you're planning a special celebratory dinner out because one poorly-trained, unsupervised inept waitress at Black Horse Tavern will ruin your special night out, as happened to us.
Looking at other reviews, poor service at Black Horse Tavern has been a common theme over the years, as are empty management promises to correct that. No corrections that I...
Read moreIf you like being really disappointed when you go out to dinner, this is the place for you. This place is terrible. It started when we put our name in upon arrival. We were told it would be 30 minutes and then we noticed others getting seated who arrived after us. After an hour we saw the hostess crumble up the sheet with our name on it and and toss it away. We finally got seated after an hour and 10 minutes at a filthy table that had ketchup all over it, we asked to have it cleaned again. Then one of the bread plates came out with food all over it, yuk. After we placed our order, it took forever for the food to arrive and it wasn't even hot, warm at best and our drinks were never refilled. The waitress couldn't have cared less about taking care of us. Given the quantity and quality of the food compared to the prices, the value isn't very good either. Bottom line,...
Read moreI like this place. Good food, ambiance, and service. So I call and request a table for five to celebrate a birthday and passing the bar exam. I’m not cheap, they just really like this place. I spoke to the Manager/ Owner and was told they only take reservations for parties of eight. Unfortunately dude was programmed to say no. I told him the circumstances and celebrations. Personally I would be proud that a family wanted to dine at a tavern for passing the BAR exam. I am also quite sure if a Winchester regular had requested, the answer would be “yes, I can make an exception for you” - Anyways, on to @mastro’s (my favorite) I just write this because people are lacking in common sense these days. It’s not an occupancy violation, and I gtd would spend $500 plus for one table for 1.5 hours. Server misses out on an easy...
