I wrote my initial review to get the free dessert, but now that I have the ability, I figured it's worth expanding on my experience here. Overall, I had a very pleasant time there, though there were a couple things that could be improved.
Right off the bat, it's worth noting that the ambience there is incredibly unique. The honeycomb seats are a great use of vertical space and provide a really nice spot for date nights or just more intimate atmosphere. The private booths are also great for parties that include kids, as it keeps their chaos at least somewhat contained.
However, it is, at the end of the day, still a pretty small space with limited seating. As such, I highly recommend that you add yourself to the waitlist, we were number 5 for the day and it still took 1.5 hours from booking to actually get seated, and there's not a ton to do in the area while waiting (there is, but it's more downtown NE town vibes, so there is and there isn't), so get on the waitlist early since the turnover rate seems to be pretty slow. I also wasn't thrilled that when we got there, the hostess said we were next in line but someone else still got seated before us. Not sure if there was a communication issue, but that was a bit annoying since we timed our arrival to match our waitlist position.
To the food, we ordered the yakitori platter, a few ramens, and the omurice, along with the lemonade, popcorn chicken, and Japanese Cherry Blossom Jelly and matcha pudding w. red bean, which came with our combos. The Japanese Cheery Blossom Jelly was especially good, and the ramen was solid, we ended up saving some of the broth for later. The popcorn chicken tasted a bit salty, it seemed like it was dipped in some sort of coarse powder, but was still pretty good. The yakitori was a little disappointing, all of the meats were a bit chewy and there wasn't much of the yakitori flavor to the meats, so it seemed a bit generic (almost microwaved?) and underwhelming.
Bottom line, definitely worth checking out and visiting, but just make sure you plan your time...

Read moreWent on opening day. The appetizers were AMAZING. Every single bite was perfect. The pan fried gyoza was crispy and so juicy on the inside. The Takoyaki was seriously the best takoyaki i have ever had. So crunchy and crispy on the outside, hot and gooey on the inside, the octopus was not super chewy like most places. Seriously i'm going back for the Takoyaki. We also got the meat stuffed crispy balls that are topped with lobster. I've never tried these before. The shells were so thin and delicate but gave it a lovely crunch. The lobster was fishy in the best way it was so delicious. The meat filling was perfectly seasoned. Sorry i forgot what that app is called.
For Ramen i ordered the Tankatsu #1. The noodles were firm, chewy and bouncy which is just how you want them. The meat melted in your mouth, the corn was so buttery, the egg was perfectly soft boiled and well seasoned. My ONLY critique is the broth was not as rich as i'd like it to be. Ramen is known for its very rich flavorful broth and this although tasted good, did not leave that full coating on my tongue that is expected. It's consistency was a little more watered down. I hope that changes in the future. Considering it was their first day opening and they were PACKED, i'll be going back to try the ramen again and i definitely want to go back to try the Omirice and more apps!! For dessert we had the matcha pudding that was so soft and creamy. Even my friend that doesn't like matcha, finished his completely! The serving may be small for some but i felt it was just the right amount and it wasn't too sweet.
The atmosphere was wonderful. The quality in everything was higher end. I love chopsticks with a little weight to them. The layout of the place was unique and efficient. Everyone was very nice even after such a long demanding day of work. Service was a little slow but again, this was just day one.🙂
Thank you Kyuramen. I wish your location in Winchester success and good fortune. I'll be...
