If I could rate Filo’s 10 stars I would. First let me thank Justin (JJ) for an OUTSTANDING server experience. He was full of knowledge about the menu, attentive but not constantly at the table, we NEVER had to ask for a refill or new drink. He was extremely personable and didn’t just “rush off” to the next table even though they were SLAMMED on a Friday night.
The hostess was exactly correct about it being a “30 minute wait”. There was a long line of people waiting (always a good sign) but they sat us in exactly 30 mins. And we ordered a couple drinks from the bar while we waited.
The food here was extremely surprisingly amazing. We are from New Orleans and have moved around a bit since 2019. We moved to Hazel Green a few years ago and just haven’t found “our spot” yet for food, until now!
It has been a struggle to find really good food locally. Almost every sauce, dip, etc is made from scratch and in-house.
What we ordered:
Steak Eggrolls - these were very decent, but the ranch they are served with was nothing short of amazing. (Again, it’s made in-house)
Shrimp PoBoy - We are from New Orleans and are hesitant to order food like this. First of all, I asked our server (JJ) if it was French Bread or just a Hoagie…. He had another server who had an order ready for a table bring the PoBoy by our table to show us. They ACTUALLY use French Bread here! Hands down one of the best shrimp Poboys I’ve ever had. Their scratch made tartar sauce is the best I have ever had.
Prime Rib Sandwich - 10/10 awesome. We literally got a 3/4” SLAB of prime rib, again on the French bread with scratch made horseradish cream sauce. With a side of Au Jus (gravy) (again made in-house and I could tell it’s with the drippings)
Seafood Linguine - Shrimp, REAL crab meat, spicy Alfredo sauce, and TONS of flavor. Best seafood pasta dish I have had since leaving New Orleans.
Blackberry Cheesecake - the cheesecake here is made In house, soft, fluffy, and NOT too sweet. (Which I’m grateful for). The sweetness came from the blackberries and blackberry sauce. Perfect dessert!
Adult Beverages: Tavern Tequila Sunset- 8/10 and was great
Pear Martini - subpar 5/10 (very STRONG though) I think it was Pear Flavored vodka (I’d rather them use normal vodka and add some kind of pear flavoring)
Prickly Pear Margarita - 6/10 for me but maybe I don’t like Prickly Pear as a flavor.
Spicy Margarita - 8/10 - this was actually QUITE spicy (still very good) and came with a BLACK salt rim. Nice touch!
My wife and I found this place in a whim and CAN’T WAIT to go back. I will 100% ask for JJ EVERY time we go. I cannot rave enough about...
Read moreI cannot express the excitement I had of coming home to visit my hometown and having dinner at the highly recommended restaurant Filos. My friends have raved over it so we made a girls dinner trip to Winchester . They have previously had great experiences, tonight was not that night for us. Our server started very sweet and outgoing and then not so much. Maybe it was too busy for her. My friend ordered a regular steak and was brought the coffee steak to which she attempted to try and the guy who ran it said he would swap it but she wanted to give it a shot to prevent an inconvenience. But she didn’t like the how sweet the glaze was and asked the server to swap it for what she originally ordered. The server then says “oh sure I will just pay for this out of pocket and bring you a new one” as years of serving I know better than to use this guilt trip from her messing up the order. This conversation went on for a few minutes before she finally would agree to bring out what was actually ordered. There was a couple of incidents of super rude encounters with a couple staff but nothing disappointed us more than the steak comment. Waited for 35 minutes on water refills that never happened. The food was good but the service alone was enough for me to not return. Especially if I’m paying $70+ for my dinner and drink...
Read moreWe were visiting from out of town. The reviews looked good so we decided to try Filo's. Site states it's an "upscale atmosphere". The "upscale atmosphere" included screaming kids bumping into my chair every 2-3 minutes. Quickly found out that wasn't the only inaccuracy in the reviews. The $15 Old Fashion my partner ordered was very poorly made. (The fruit, bitters and sugar wasn't properly crushed nor mixed and the "smoke" part actually made us laugh as it was just a wisp.) The server was very hard pressed to assist me in any non-alcoholic beverage choices. We had to Flag Down the server for everything. Refills, food returns, check, etc. There was a large group of servers standing close to the wall and all were in IGNORE mode. Now the Bad part. My partner's Filet was RAW. Not rare... RAW. Still had cold, white fat lines through it. He sent it back twice and it was still completely raw in the center. At $45 you would think they would bother to cook it correctly. My Fish was grease soaked all the way through. (cooking grease at wrong temp/ not hot enough) Soggy, limp and tasteless. The potatoes, both mashed and fried were fine.
As we left, we noticed several children sitting at the bar. Since that's not legal in Tennessee, it really made me wonder what management is doing in this...
