I finally checked out this spot last weekend after hearing so much about it. A staff member even told me that Pacquiao and Jo Koy eat here whenever they’re in Vegas, and that photos with the owner are on the wall. I only spotted what was supposedly Manny’s mother, though I couldn’t confirm since I don’t know what she looks like. Rumors aside, I’m glad I came because this was some of the best and most authentic Filipino homemade comfort food I’ve ever had.
For $19.99 per person, you get at least 20 freshly made dishes daily, refilled throughout the day, plus fried rice and steamed rice (soda is extra). I came for a late lunch around 2 pm, and the spread was still fresh, full, and delicious, everything from appetizers to mains, soups, and desserts.
What makes it extra fun is the buffet-tapas hybrid: you fill small bowls, arrange them on your tray, and enjoy the meal bite by bite. The fried salted fish/smelt was the highlight for me, crispy and addictive with steamed rice. Another stand-out was the crossover dishes similar to Vietnamese cuisine (at least five mains and two desserts). I especially enjoyed the pickled cabbage soup and the desserts like taro banana and coconut tapioca, which were perfectly cooked and not overly sweet.
Whip X Bánh Mì Sharing the space right next door is Whip X Bánh Mì, a separate café in its soft-opening phase. They offer fresh made modern Vietnamese coffee, sugarcane juice, coconut water, and Bánh Mì. I ordered the Matcha Sugarcane ($6.49), which was refreshingly delicious, lightly sweet, and balanced, even though I’m not usually a matcha fan, this was a pleasant surprise.
Service was sufficient and friendly for this kind of market-buffet setup. Don’t let the strip mall exterior fool you, this place delivers!
Location perks: about a 15-minute drive from both The Strip and Chinatown, and close to UNLV. I also learned there are a few other locations around Vegas, so if you’re local, I’d love to hear how they compare.
Restrooms: women’s was out of toilet seat covers, men’s was fully stocked. Parking: free in the strip mall lot. Hours: open 7 days a week, making it convenient whenever cravings hit.
The $19.99 price is for the Filipino buffet only. All items from Whip X Bánh Mì, like their Vietnamese coffee, sugarcane, coconut water, and drinks such as the Matcha Sugarcane, are separate purchases, since Whip X is its own stand-alone café that simply shares the space with Kusina Ni Lorraine...
Read moreAbsolute worst customer service ever!! Never fails!! This is the third time this has happened so I feel like I needed to leave a review. I feel like that he workers here only help their own kind. Meaning (Tagalog speakers) First time, as I was paying, the cashier did not acknowledge me at all. I smiled at her but she had a big frown on her face, never made eye contact and just handed me my receipt. So RUDE! She did however speak of the lady before me in Tagalog. Second time, I was waiting in line to pay, and and the cashier was going to ring up the person behind me as if I wasnt next in line. (Person behind me another Tagalog speaker) Third time I wanted to order food. No one was in line and no one offered to help me. The cashier had 2 people she was ringing up but she kept ringing up the people that kept going in line. Again not acknowledging that I had been there before all of them and that someone would help me. To make it even worse, a worker came up and just helped himself to a plate. Everyone that was helped was Filipino and spoke he language. I feel as though the workers only help their kind of people. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt by going there multiple times but I am now convinced now that they highly discriminate against people that arnt like them. I hate to say this but it’s from experience. I’ve gone with my mom and of course she gets service!! Gee, I wonder why!? I don’t care how good the food is here, if you can’t treat everyone with the same respect, you will not get respect. That is why I am rating this...
Read moreDuring our usual weekend drive on July 09, 2023, my twin brother and I decided to try out Kusina Ni Lorraine Pinoy Restaurant located along Maryland Parkway across the Boulevard Mall for lunch. Unfortunately, our experience left us extremely disappointed and concerned about the safety of the food being served. The cleanliness of the restaurant was not up to par with Health Department Regulations. The plates and utensils were not properly cleaned or sanitized, and the tables were sticky. We were extremely concerned about how the tables were being cleaned with a dirty rag that wasn't even soaked in a bucket of sanitizer. The bathroom was also filthy and being used for storage of supplies and chemicals, which is a violation of OSHA Regulations. Although the food tasted good, it seemed like it had been cooked days ago and reheated for serving. This is not safe for consumption and can lead to health risks for customers. Additionally, the bathroom lacked soap and paper towels, which suggests that the cooks might not have been washing their hands properly after using the bathroom. This is extremely unhygienic and a major concern for anyone who values their health and safety. Overall, we would not recommend dining in or ordering from Kusina Ni Lorraine Pinoy Restaurant due to the unsafe conditions of their food and lack of proper...
