I had the day off today so we ate lunch at Oishii to avoid what I am certain will be a large dinner crowd.
This place is brand new and of course super clean with mix of modern-industrial and Japanese themed decor.
The service was fast and genuinely friendly, if not yet displaying the professional polish of a seasoned server. It was already starting to get busy when we arrived and there was also a brisk take out business happening. Regardless, we were greeted upon entry, seated immediately, and had a beverage within moments. I could see the kitchen window and our server had our food out to us within seconds of it appearing on that counter window. My iced tea was refilled long before it hit empty - twice.
We had a Tempura Veggie appetizer, Steamed Buns, a Happy Eel Roll, and two different varieties of Ramen.
The Tempura was good with a good amount of broccoli, sweet potato, and zucchini. The sweet potato was perfect and my favorite. The steamed Buns were delicious and loaded with Chinese char ciu bbq pork. They are basically dim sum and were good enough to have come off a cart in New York, LA, or San Francisco at a Dim Sum specialty place if I didn’t know otherwise. Both appetizers were plentiful portions for the money. You could easily make a nice meal out of a few appetizers.
The Happy Eel Roll was flat delicious.
I had the Shrimp Ramen and my wife had the Tantanmen Ramen. Both were large bowls with plenty of noodles in addition to generous amounts of ingredients. My only caution is that I was tasting a heavy hand for sodium by the time I made it about 2/3 of the way through my broth. To be clear, I was happy with the amount of salt, but folks who are sensitive to sodium might find it too salty to their taste.
Apologies that I took no pictures of soup, but it looked just like the pictures in their menu. Also, all my app pics are after we started chowing them down. At least I remembered to snap a shot of the roll before digging in.
Bottom Line: Good food (especially for the price). Good and Prompt Service. Nice decor. We...
Read moreFirst time ordering. Prices for the standard rolls (Tuna, Salmon, spicy tuna) are reasonable, the slices are a little thick 6 pieces approx 1 1/4" thick (prefer 8 pieces at about 1inch or so) but a minor issue. Upon opening the container with Salmon and Spicy Tuna rolls, I was instantly hit with that beautiful smell spices. No overt fishiness, and the spice was just right, not too much or little, tasty and easily made spicy with a dab of wasabi. I also had their crab rangoon, a little sweeter than I'm use to, but still very good. Specialty rolls were a Tiger Roll and Sunset Roll however, I'm not sure that's what I received. One had salad greens inside which neither roll has listed, and neither "salad" or "green" comes up within the Sushi section of the online menu. One of the rolls was sliced very thin and both of the rolls I had, had some sticking to the takeout tray which caused several pieces to fall apart while picking them up with chopsticks. An additional note on that, the "falling apart" or breaking open, the salmon roll (seaweed wrapper, rice, solid piece of raw tuna) broke apart at the seam as there was no overlap on the seaweed. Especially when using chop sticks, a roll falling open at the seam can be problematic. Two of my 3 dishes had spicy mayo and eel sauce. I mention this because I did takeout, some of the sauces were lost to the top lid. Where possible I'd recommend dine-in so that you get the full sauce and clean effect from sushi placed in front of you. A good meal 3 cheaper/cheapest rolls is about 17 dollars, two premium rolls about 16 dollars each, total (with rangoons) was 49.95. Once a month treat seems ok, definitely not an everyday eats price. A good 4 to...
Read moreI was needing a place to decompress after a stressful doctor's appointment and found Oishii was nearby. Even though it was still during the busy lunch rush, Lyra (my waitress) was patient and respectful, present but not pushy. She had a beautiful calm smile that let me relax while I tried a variety of food and slowly sorted out stressful life stuff.
The miso soup (not pictured) was the best I have tried so far. The mini pork buns were hot and fresh, served in their bamboo steamer. I had to pace myself to not devour all 4 of the sweet and savory buns before my Ramen arrived. Many Ramen shops i have been to, require you to pay individually for the kind of topings that were already included. Everything was delivered steaming hot and I was able to take my time enjoying it. I ordered a lot of food and the total was still less then I thought it would be!
Please treat Lyra well, I would love for her to be at Oishii every time I return! ;)
Edit: I almost forgot to talk about their bubble tea! It is new to their menu. I ordered a milk tea at the beginning of the meal, it was very satisfying to have a large iced mug placed in front of me. The sweetness was enough to be uplifting but not so sweet it made me cringe. The tapioca bubbles were more like ovals then circles (not a downside in my opinion) Oishii's tapioca pearls has a light flavor and were deliciously chewy. (Nothing like the under cooked tapioca balls i have had in the past where the texture and flavor were off-putting.)
I ordered the Macha flavor as I was leaving. Imo this is a good "beginner" or introduction to Macha drink, as it was light and sweet, but not...
