If you thought you've had Thai food in the US before, you are very much mistaken until you've gone to this blessed gem. Listen —Thai food is my favorite cuisine outside of the culinary anomaly of sushi. I have been to some of the best Thai spots all over CA, NY, and many states in between, and thus far, this spot stands above them all.
We decided on moo ping for the appetizer and it blew all other Thai apps we've ever had out the water. The pork was immaculately tender, juicy, and charred. The accompanying tamarind sauce is literally the rib to the pork (figuratively, not literally, because it's boneless). Together, as one flesh, they flood you with sweet, tangy, and savory goodness.
They have a variation of pad thai called Tom yum pad thai, and it redefined pad thai for me. Imagine a classic and perfectly executed pad thai, with it's holy trinity flavor profile (sweet, tangy, savory), and fuse it with the sour and herbal elements of tom yum. Utterly ingenious. Pad thai was already my favorite noodle dish of all time, but this is overkill —overkill that I gratefully welcome and can't get enough of. THE best.
Lastly, we had to go for one of the whole fish dishes, pla rad prik. Excuse me while I run it back like a broken record and say that this was the best whole cooked fish dish I have ever had in my life. Light crispy skin, melt in your mouth meat, and the most mouth watering chili sauce come together in sweet and sour harmony. Use your hands, eat it down to the bone, and get lifted by it's heavenly flavor.
The restaurant is small for how popular it is, but they utilize their space super well and have put together a very nice dining atmosphere. The staff was friendly and our waitress was sweet and accommodating. Since coming here, my wife and I have been dreaming about it and will likely continue to until we return. Thank you for opening our eyes even wider to Thai cuisine and God bless this place. Amen.
Edit We tried the pad See ew and it was the best, most flavorful I've ever had. The noodles were cooked perfectly: soft, charred, and soaked in the sauce all at the same time. Unreal. The fried garlic on top is truly a chef's kiss detail.
The yum pla tod was also insane. Another one of their melt-in-your-mouth branzino dishes. The mangos and cashews pair perfectly with the savory sauce and fish. You get all the textures in this dish. They're very good at utilizing that to the fullest here. Just...
Read moreHad been meaning to leave a review for Thai Charoen Kitchen since last week. We recently did a takeout last week after spotting it on our way back from our workout. I must say that we’ve finally got, an authentic, flavorful Thai spot right in our neighborhood. We ordered the tofu yellow curry and basil tofu, and both were simply outstanding, fresh, flavorful, and felt like a warm hug - i can picture myself eating here every time i crave for comfort food. Thai food is something my husband and I enjoy, we make it a point to try every well-reviewed place we can. So when I say this is by far the best we’ve had, it comes from a place of solid experience lol. I also recommended it to my coworker next day, who visited soon after and had a great time with her family.
We sincerely hope the quality stays this way. Can’t wait to dine...
Read moreSo excited to have a Thai place in Winchester finally! We went the day after opening day, the servers were so friendly and attentive, the food was amazing and flavorful, and the atmosphere was very chill and clean. I got the Kee Mao (aka drunken noodles) and a Thai iced tea and my dad got the Pad Thai. They have a unique, tasty Kee Mao recipe different from most other Thai places I go to, so I’m excited to try other dishes as well to see more of their style. I didn’t get to try much of the pad Thai before my dad ate it all, but he had very good things to say about it. The Thai iced tea was very tasty too. Also kind of a minor thing but I love that they use crushed ice in the water/other drinks because you don’t have to deal with the normal large and unwieldy ice cubes. Definitely coming back soon and recommending to...
