The family got together for a post-holiday gathering, meeting up with family members who were home for a little bit longer before heading back to their current homes. I don't know how we came to choose the Stockhouse. Their webpage was attractive and the menu displayed many offerings, so we gave it a try. And we did have a large group of 13 people. It didn't go particularly well. The food, in general, was good. We had a wide array of appetizers, including fried pickles, fried mushrooms and wings. They were all good. I think they take pride in their wings, with a wide variety of sauces being offered. Again, the wings were good. We were there for dinner, so it was in the evening. That was a problem, as the sole lightbulb that illuminated the table was not sufficient. We resorted to the flashlights in our phones in order to be able to read the menu. You shouldn't have to do that. The restaurant's menu boasts that they have 24 beers on tap. Well, when I asked for a beer list, I was told that they didn't have one. Eventually, someone passed me a handwritten list of their beer offerings, which listed all their beers but did not include a description! I was also handed a 3 X 5 index card that listed 4 beers. Again, no description. The appetizers and the entrees were brought, and for the most part, most everyone was satisfied. The steak tips, which were ordered to be cooked medium-rare were tough and cooked nearly well-done. And the Reuben sandwiches had some sort of meat that didn't taste at all like corned beef. As a matter of fact, we thought it was either pork or roast beef. When a complaint was made to our server, she came back and said that the manger says it's corned beef, and that she, the manager had made it. We were told that if we didn't like it, too bad. Our servers did their best. The food was okay. The lighting was poor and the beer listing of those 24 drafts was nonexistent. There is room for a great deal of improvement at the Stockhouse Restaurant in...
Read moreWe had a TERRIBLY long wait ….. for EVERYTHING!!!! Even considering pandemic and staffing shortages… just TOO LONG!! Arrived for 6:30 reservation .. were seated at 7:00. Ordered nachos as soon as we sat for rambunctious tweens so they’d be able to handle the post pandemic food wait..(we are patient and wise)….watched a table seated after us complete their wings and appetizers and have their meal served WHILE WAITING FOR NACHOS… Which arrived at 7:45. Food came at 8:30. At which point none of us could even eat… as we had been squeezed into a booth for far too long….
Pub food should not take 1.5 hours to get to the table even with just one person cooking for one table at a time…
Our waitress was sweet, but honestly saying you’re sorry 35 times and offering a passle of young boys more sugary drink refills??
Not really helpful.
It was not overly busy . There were two servers and a bus person for 6 tables. And when our food did finally arrive at least 3 other servers were helping…to serve the first five meals (two came 15 minutes later) … our wings literally never came.. we got those boxed up when we were told there’’d still be a wait…
The only excuse I can figure is there was just one person in the kitchen???
The food is good!! But not two hour wait good!!
At no point were we offered even a complimentary beverage, and we were charged for items we never received …pretty big bill for a pretty big downer of an experience.
Will definitely NOT be going back...
Read moreFirst off, most of the food was amazing! Some was just ok. The hand cut fries! Exceptional! The real concern I have is for those with issues with Gluten. Luckily we know what questions to ask and make sure we inspect dishes. Steaktips were marked GF on the menu...but came out (after we had clearly stated it needed to be GF) with a huge slice of Garlic Bread on the top of the plate...garlic bread is not even in the item description so how could we ask for it without? They did make it right and re made the meal. But if you are going to a restaurant with clearly marked GF items, they need to be more careful. Some things like not having a dedicated frier(which they do not) and still being marked is understandable. But a huge slice of bread on a marked item...come on...
Basically, my point is, its a good time and good food, if you don't have to worry about gluten. I think with a little education for the wait staff and more clear item descriptions, it could be great! If not, take the GF notations off the menu so we don't get our hopes up!
Ps...obviously the fries being amazing was from those who do not have...
