Black Maple — Local services in Windham

I went in to buy a new ring for my septum piercing, but I was disappointed by the experience. Instead of being shown any jewelry, the woman at the register immediately told me she wouldn’t sell me what I wanted for two reasons: 1) my piercing wasn’t healed enough. My piercing is only one month (4 weeks) old and not ready to changed, which I know since my piercer advised me of this. He said 3 months (12 weeks) is ideal 2) I needed one of their employees to put it in for me. I have done some research, and it is perfectly okay to change your septum piercing on your own once it is healed and if it is standard gauge (mine is).

My overall opinion of this shop remains the same: I felt undermined and left dissatisfied. I wouldn’t recommend going here to buy jewelry if your piercing is new. They seem to assume that you have no knowledge about piercings, which is frustrating. To clarify, I have six ear piercings and two nose piercings, with my septum being the newest addition. I am just very discouraged about my experience at this piercing shop.

It feels a bit ridiculous to put this into words, but I was genuinely excited about purchasing new jewelry. I consider myself informed about piercings, yet my interaction with the person at the front desk left me feeling belittled and foolish.

Whitney's professionalism and bedside manner can't be beaten. My experience at Black Maple was seamless and relaxed, and I was certain I was in the best hands beginning with walking through the door to the end of my experience. I really appreciated the ability to have an extremely sanitary, safe, enjoyable piercing experience. My sole feedback is around the pricing and pricing structure. I am fairly fastidious when planning body modification—and pretty experienced, with numerous tattoos and piercings—and still found myself shocked at the overall cost of the experience. I would recommend that piercings be marked as priced individually on the website/booking platform. I would also recommend that pricing be confirmed up front at the time of the appointment, and that the price of jewelry be listed. I was unaware that having the backs of the jewelry that was installed would accrue an additional cost for jewelry, which wasn't mentioned or listed on the website, either. My 17 year old has been begging for a navel piercing for years - i wanted her to have it done professionally (actually I REALLY didn’t want her to have it at all!) and luckily found Black Maple. Whitney was amazing - so welcoming and clearly professional - the shop is inviting and CLEAN - it’s clear she takes pride in what she does and has high standards. She explained everything, and was detailed in what to expect after the piercing as it healed- she offered us to call at any point after the piercing if we had any questions or concerns. The piercing itself was done perfectly and quickly - as a mom I can’t thank Whitney enough for making it a professional yet warm experience. I even had to admit how great it looked (and I’m sure my youngest daughter will be using that against me in a few years when she wants one).
