Ate here Monday (8/11/25) and today (11/15/25). Originally had a double cheeseburger, fries with chili and cheese, and the lemonade. The beef patties were thick and dense, no stringy meat here! The fries were lightly crisp outside, soft inside, and held the cheese and chili well. I'm more of a southwestern chili guy, but I know Carolina has its own way of doing chili...that doesn't make it WRONG, just not my style or preference. Even so, I didn't dislike the chili, and it suited the fries well. The lemonade...to be fair, was probably the most appropriate balance of sweet and tart...but my personal preference leans toward more tart. All in all, everything was good. Prepared and served up in like 3 minutes, large portions, and worth the diners.
Consistent? Well, the second trip was similar...double cheeseburger, TOTS with chili and cheese, and WATERMELON lemonade. No change on the burger, and they slathered on the extra mayo I asked for. The tots were perfectly done...there's a range of perfect crispness from light to heavy, and they nailed it on the light end, which is good...in a chaotically busy little kitchen like theirs, better to have a little more time to save the batch if you're running behind! No change to the chili and cheese, good as before, and plenty! The watermelon lemonade was FIRE! This batch appeared to be less sweet and amazingly refreshing, and the bit of watermelon coming through was a light hint of sweetness that perfectly contrasted. Again, everything was good, and served up even faster this time.
Been seeing stuff on FB for this place now, and several visitors today were saying it wad their first time, so word's getting out...the place is legit!
Now, some will say they're not great, and that may be true...it's not a Michelin restaurant, and they're not fawning over you, nobody to seat you...just a typical hole-in-the-wall food joint...no promises, and low expectations. But they're good. And being good consistently, with the portions, the preparation, the prices, and the service...is what keeps people coming back, and spreading the word. And THAT is why they really ARE great...a little place, with a hard-working core crew, getting it done real basic-like, and keeping it real...
So yes, I'll be back...dropping $$ here is money...

Piedmont Aviation Snack Bar is easily one of my favorite local spots, and honestly, it deserves way more recognition than it gets. The vibe is exactly what you want from a neighborhood snack bar – friendly faces, a casual and welcoming atmosphere, and food that is made fresh, hot, and delicious every single time.
The menu is surprisingly extensive for a “snack bar.” Whether you’re in the mood for a classic burger, a hearty cheesesteak, crispy fries, onion rings, or a hot breakfast plate, they have it – and they do it WELL. Everything is cooked to order, so it always tastes fresh, and the portions are generous. Their Philly cheesesteak and onion rings are an absolute must-try – perfectly seasoned, melty, and packed with flavor.
What makes this place really special, though, is the staff. They remember regulars, greet you with a smile, and make you feel like you’re part of the family. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers, and that goes a long way. Service is quick, and even when they’re busy, you never feel rushed – it’s the kind of spot where you can relax and enjoy your food.
Pricing is more than fair (especially compared to airport food or chain restaurants), and you can get a full, satisfying meal without breaking the bank. It’s one of those rare places where you leave full, happy, and already planning what you’ll order next time.
If you’re in the area – whether you work nearby, are passing through, or just want a great local breakfast or lunch – Piedmont Aviation Snack Bar is 100% worth the stop. Great food, friendly people, and a true “local favorite” vibe that’s getting harder and harder to find. Highly...
Read moreEh, I’ll give them 4 because of the service. I read a couple previous reviews and I’ll agree with the “grease was old” comment. Although I really don’t think it’s old. I think the volume they serve and the smaller fryer size allows for the oil to prematurely brown. Burger and dogs were great. Chili on the tots and dogs was what I went for. I have to be honest, I shouldn’t see a layer of grease. Flavor was good though, could have used a lil more zing with spice but I like hot stuff so take that in account. Cool calm atmosphere for sure and the tables were clean. I’d eat there again for breakfast. They ran out of bacon but I’m sure that’s because of the large AM crowd and we didn’t arrive until 1230. My advice is to go there early for breakfast or around 11 for lunch before the oil browns and they run...
