Mama Dilo's Deli — Restaurant in Winter Haven

First visit. Got a Ruben. It was okay. When I walked in the place smacked in the face with an almost urine like smell. I'm into a homie old style almost bar feel but this place was kind of dirty. The glass on the deli case was very foggy I'm not sure if it was Dirt or just old glass. And there was literally a bucket of something dripping under the soda machine that look like it had been there for a while. Two open containers with no lid of tea and them one was what look like a pickle jar that customers were pouring their own tea into their cups with. I was very hesitant to order anything but I heard good things about it from a friend of mine. But maybe they only like regulars because the woman at the front who took my order was a little off putting and the regulars who were called by name got smiles where I got none. The inside is very old and worn out looking. The booths are small. It needs to be cleaned in there, and they need a new meat case and equipment. The tea pitchers are very old and dirty looking. Its not expensive to get new pitchers or clean the dust and various things lying around! They charge an extra 3.5% to your bill for using debit or credit. The lady at the register was not very enthused. We ordered anyway, because there have been good reviews. Our order was made completely wrong for both subs. The quality of the food is definately not worth the price, or the atmosphere. We paid almost $25 for two subs that were made wrong. We will not...

A fantastic Winter Haven icon. It is great to support local businesses especially ones that do a great job. True, it is not a sterile Subway that gets remodeled every few years but the food is great and huge. During a busy lunch I could see the hospitality being slightly short changed as they are cranking the food out that is made to order. This place is hopping during lunch and getting you good food during you short break is their priority. If you want to small talk, go in after the lunch rush and they are great.
