If I could rate just the splash pad, I'd give it 5 stars. However, the playground brings the overall score down.
The playground equipment gets very hot and is unsafe for children, even in February. Also, the majority of the playground is not suitable for kids under 5, so if you have younger kids, it will be a stressful time for you.
Additionally, there is a path that wraps directly behind the playground and through the park, which is a travel way for many that probably don't have any business being around small children. So, you will need to keep your head on a swivel the entire time.
The splash pad is wonderful. It has plenty of different parts/attractions, and everything was working perfectly the entire time we were there.
The shaded/sheltered pavilions near the splash pad were also great.
Overall, I'd give the splash pad 5 stars, the playground 2 stars, and the overall...
Read moreOne of the nicer parks in Winterhaven. Great splash pad for the kiddos with automatic shut ups when nobody splashing. Lots of picnic tables for gatherings and parties. Well-maintained. Relatively new playground equipment. Only exception is they need to replace the swings that are currently missing.
Bathrooms were a wreck and all the stalls were without toilet paper. But I appreciate that they lock the bathrooms at dusk to discourage the transient population.
Beware that there are no gates, or fences, around this park and this park connects with Martin Luther King Jr park and Silver Lake via pathways. So if you have an eloper, keep your eye on them. Also, beware at dusk, the transient population starts to circle. You can see some transient homes in the bushes next...
Read moreIt was a really nice place to take my kid to cool off. The splash area is large with a padded no slip material on the ground. There are several water spraying figures to run through and around. Unfortunately about a third of water spraying area was not working during my visit, for what reason I don't know. They're is also a partially covered playground with features for a wide range of ages. My only complaint with this is that it is only partially covered. Anything there that was exposed to the sun was dangerously hot. There were several picnic tables under canopies to rest our eat at. We will...
