Mexicali Taco Co. — Restaurant in Winter Park

On Christmas Day, after a fun day of skiing, my family stopped by Mexicali Taco Co. for a quick bite. My husband, who has Type 1 diabetes, was experiencing a blood sugar drop and was trending low. In order to manage his condition, he brought a small snack and drink into the restaurant while the rest of our family ordered and PAID for food. We were shocked when your staff approached him and insisted he leave because of a “no outside food or drink” policy.

When my husband explained that he’s diabetic, showed his insulin pump, and mentioned he was actively managing a medical situation, your staff refused to make an exception. They insisted that he leave, completely disregarding federal law under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which explicitly protects individuals with diabetes. The ADA allows people with diabetes to bring necessary food or drink into public spaces to manage their condition, making your policy both inappropriate and discriminatory.

As someone who has lived with diabetes since he was 12 years old, my husband has never faced such treatment, and it was deeply upsetting to see your staff refuse him this basic right. To the owners of Mexicali Taco Co.: I urge you to better educate your staff on ADA compliance and ensure no one else has to experience this kind of discrimination. Mexicali Tacos serves, without a doubt, the best tacos I’ve ever had. They were so amazing that we couldn’t resist taking more with us on the way to the airport, just to enjoy them one last time before leaving.

I’ve heard people say they’re the best tacos in the county, and I absolutely agree. We tried the tacos, horchatas, quesadillas, and the vampiro—all of them were bursting with flavor. The food was incredible, but the service was truly phenomenal. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.

One of my favorite parts was their mini salsa bar, where you can customize your food exactly how you like it. The atmosphere was lively, with fun music that added to the whole experience.

Well I've found a new contender for the best Tortas on planet earth.

I have had the Tortas here twice about 4 months apart. Absolutely perfect, fresh veggies, excellent salsa bar options, the telera rolls are the perfect softness without getting soggy, the sandwich is large and filled with plenty of carne asada, onions, tomatoes, guacamole, good ratio of gooey and crispy cheese.

I like to have this torta with their pickled Jalapenos, Salsa Verde Serrano, and Salsa de Arbol y Morita

If you saw my review for Taqueria Los Comales in FoCo, this place checks all the same boxes and isn't that much more expensive despite being right in Winter Park Village.
