While planning a snowboarding trip with a friend, I spent hours searching online for an affordable place to stay. As you can imagine, being a ski town, most prices were through the roof. I’m not a bougie person who needs a luxury stay, so when a Winter Park Resort employee recommended the Viking Lodge, I decided to give it a try—and I’m so glad I did! It was significantly cheaper than other hotels in the area.
The Viking Lodge is a small, family-run business, and they went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. After a long drive, they even let us check in early, which was a huge help. The lobby had an awesome cabin vibe, complete with a cozy fire, a record player, and a collection of records to choose from—such a cool touch!
The lodge offers various room sizes, some of which they mentioned are being remodeled. We booked the loft room, which had two queen-size beds—one on the main level and one on the loft. While the loft was a bit much for me (especially after the soreness kicked in from snowboarding), it was still super comfortable.
The lighting wasn’t the best, but honestly, it added to the cozy cabin aesthetic, so I didn’t mind. The only downside was the thin walls. We could hear other guests and the bustling city, especially during a snowstorm when trucks were working all night. That said, it didn’t really interrupt my sleep—it’s just something to be aware of.
The Viking Lodge is conveniently located at the entrance of Winter Park, right next to a charming shopping center with restaurants, bars, and shops. Plus, the free "Lift" bus routes stop both in fr
Overall, I’d rate this place a 10/10. It’s not packed with fancy amenities, but if you’re looking for a comfortable, budget-friendly spot with super friendly owners, this is the place for you. I’ll definitely stay here again if I return to Winter Park!
Bonus: They had light breakfast items, snacks, coffee, refreshments, and board games in the lobby, which made the experience...
Read moreMy sister and I traveled to Winter Park for Spring Break this past weekend. We stayed at the Viking Lodge and had a blast! The location of this hotel could not have been any better. It's within walking distance of plenty of fun bars and great places to eat, along with a shuttle that will take you up to the ski resort at all hours of the day. But that wasn't the best part--the best thing about the Viking Lodge was the people running it! My sister and I got into Winter Park late Saturday night (flew into Denver around 8:30 and drove from there) and called ahead to let the Viking know. When we arrived (mind you, tired after a long day and a flight and a drive through the windy mountains) there was a note and a key waiting for us in the office. They had typed up a nice "welcome" note, along with the WiFi password, and directions to our room. No fuss, no worries. It was so appreciated. The next morning, we rented equipment from the lodge and in addition to the service being excellent, I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable everything was! The cost to rent boots and a board for two days was only $40. That blew me away. I expected to drop a small fortune. We also went upstairs and purchased new gloves, a new set of goggles, an ear warmer, a neck warmer, and a couple bumper stickers--all came right at $100. Again, I could have easily spent 4 times that amount at Winter Park's shops on the same merchandise. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Viking Lodge. When I find myself back in Winter Park, this is the first place I will look...
Read moreViking Lodge is a perfect name for this property, as it oozes "hygge": Super friendly, cozy and fun. It is the Winter Park equivalent of a small European family lodge. We had a party of 4 in one of their loft rooms. It is small and vertical--with a new staircase for son/nephew to get to their bed upstairs. Everything works and is functional--nothing more or less than what you need. Sink is outside the bathroom (toilet/shower), so a bit dorm-room'ish. Owners (appears to be a couple and grown daughter) are around, but try to be as efficient as possible (cleaning, office work, etc.), so check-in/check-out can be fairly self-service (which I like).||Common area feels like a living room--fireplace, turntable w/ records, sometimes a wonderful 3-legged German Shepherd--and is a great place to relax, with Celestial Seasonings tea, coffee, and some occasional snacks available all the time--with local baked goods put out (first come, first serve) in the morning.||Parking is included and just out back. Location couldn't be better--many restaurants, bars, and shops nearby--and you're on the main bus line--and first/last stop before Winter Park resort.||If you're looking for luxury, this ain't it--but if that's what you want, you're probably not going to Winter Park anyway. Instead, if you want cozy, great location, and affordable...Viking...
