Walked in knowing there would be a wait. Checked our 6 person party in and was told it was a 20 minute wait and asked if my entire party was here - yes we are all here I replied. 5 mins into our wait my name was called across the lobby- “just want to make sure your entire party is here.” Yes - we are all here but someone in the restroom. Then we read a sign saying go down the hall and order a cocktail while you wait. Don’t mind if I do - waited at that bar for 5-7 mins before my husband came and got me saying our table is ready and they won’t sit us unless we are all present. So the bartender handed us one of our four drinks and we went back to the restaurant and was sat at our table by the owner. The drink we got from the bar was my 8 year old son’s sprite. We asked if we could order drinks from that bar in the restaurant - she said no and proceeded to tell my son he couldn’t have any outside beverages. Took the sprite from him and asked us what we would like to order. I had to order him another sprite… wonder if they would take a bottle away from a baby. We ordered and ate - food was ok - breakfast burger bun was soggy, chicken steak breading was soggy, kids Oreo pancakes was larger than any child should or could consume, and had to request a refill of my coffee. The first impression was a lot of rules and attitude. I prefer a tad more chill and accommodating over a rude hostess and rule stricken owner - especially since we spent $130 on breakfast which I feel is fairly steep without drinks and 2 kids meals. Idk a local coney joint seems to provide a better experience than this place. Not sure the hype here and probably...
Read moreLena's Kitchen is an OK spot for breakfast/ brunch in SE Michigan. I brought some out of town friends to the restaurant after hearing some rave reviews from coworkers and seeing generally good reviews online, but I wasn't really impressed with what I experienced. The restaurant isn't in a building of its own, and as a result feels kind of odd and out of place in its location. It's in a spot in the bottom of an office building, and as a result misses out on the cozy feeling you'd expect from a restaurant like this. It feels less like a nice brunch spot and more like a cafe you'd find in a hospital lobby...
Moving past the general ambiance, and onto the food! The menu is interesting and has pretty diverse options. It seems like the sweet items on the menu tend to be a big hit among customers as they are done very beautifully and look delicious. That said, as a Keto/ Low-carb dieter myself, I didn't really find much on the menu other than standard breakfast fare, so I ordered an omelette with a side of bacon. No complaints about the dish, it was done just fine, but kind of bland overall. It wasn't anything special and wasn't really what I'd expect from a place I'd heard such great things about. The wait staff was very friendly and prompt about taking orders/ bringing our food out, so that was a nice component of our visit to Lena's.
The thing that got me the most was that we ended up having to wait 20-30 minutes to be seated for a restaurant like this... It was Sunday around peak brunch time, but I didn't really get the hype about Lena's... Your...
Read moreIf someone didn't know of or suggest this place. I am not sure we would have ever known about this little gem tucked away in an industrial park type area just off of Beck road in Wixom. The bright red sign on Beck road marks where Lena's is.
Upon entering the office building you turn to your right and enter a quaint little diner / eatery. The industrial brick and black decor make for a very cozy warm tmosphere. With bright artwork adorning the wall to a merchandise counter it is easy to see why people enjoy the ambiance Lena's offers.
9 of us went on a Sunday at 1:00 pm. And from one end of the table to the other, we all enjoyed a variety of menu items.
Starting with Fried Pickles. Speer type. Thin sliced and breaded. Fried golden brown with wonderful homemade ranch.
From sweet and savory french toast to my Philly Cheese Steak Sub. Plates were empty at the end of the meal. My Philly cheese steak sub was enough for two people. Packed with meat cheese onions and peppers and was piping hot to the last bite. Chicken and waffles caught my attention from the other side of our table. As well as a taste tester of the biscuits and gravy sausage gravy. ( Of course home made ).
I give Lena's a five if not more as we enjoyed the meal and company as well as the hostess and our server. All who made our visit inviting and enjoyable. Thank you Lena's. We will spread the word and return to try a wide variety of Crepes, eggs Benedict and other good looking hearty menu options. Try Lena's !! You won't leave hungry and I'm sure you to...
