I never In a million years would have thought I would write a bad review about Hucks. My favorite spot to grab a hoagie since I was a kid growing up in Wolfeboro. scrounging for quarters to buy a Buffalo chicken sub with provolone and blue cheese. I Knew the previous owners personally and it was always a delight to stop in beyond just the great sandwiches.
The disappointment since new ownership has continued to grow. The new owners clearly didn’t bother to understand why the place used to be so popular or what the customers like. Hopefully my words can be helpful and I can look forward to ordering a hoagie from them again.
I don’t think they bothered or asked anyone to train them or inform them when buying the place. The sandwich quality dropped a tad initially and instantly when changing owners in the summer. It wasn’t enough to get me to stop going though. Figured it was a transitional hiccup
Now it seems like they are just changing recipes and the way they do things all together. I don’t know if it’s lack of quality control, trying to reinvent the wheel or trying to cut costs but it’s terrible now.
Most recently I noticed they changed the French fries and they are thick and soggy now instead of thin and crispy. I definitely think the menu prices have stretched beyond just inflation too. Adding that with drop in quality is making this place just not worth it anymore.
Supposedly one of the Romneys owns it now but I’ve also heard it’s the Marriotts that also own the YumYum shop. Whichever Mormon it is, I don’t care which willard your a descendant of but please for the love of god let me enjoy Hucks hoagies again.
I captain the mailboat out of Wolfeboro bay in the summers and when passengers ask for a recommendation on where to eat after the cruise I used to always tell them Hucks hoagies hands down. I would tell them they need to go there over any of the fancier places in town. I tell them it’s the best sandwich for miles. A sandwich made with care and attention by people who love the community and know the community
I want to be able to drive them by whatever waterfront property and say those are the people that now own the place that make the best...
Read moreNice little business in the back streets of Wolfeboro. They make great sandwiches, they're reasonably priced, and they're prompt. There's an indoor seating area that appears clean and comfortable. They seem to do a decent amount of business as the seating area was pretty well occupied when we were there picking up sandwiches that we had called ahead for. We always order "italian" hoagies, they consist of salami, pepperoni, cappacola, provolone with lettuce, tomato, onion, oil & vinegar. I was surprised and delighted that they knew what "an italian" was as often times, outside of NYC, places don't know what "an Italian" hero is made up of. We order a large and have leftovers for the next day. We've ordered several to bring out in the boat cooler when we have a gang. We've returned several times and we've always been very happy with our hoagies! I gave a five star rating, not because this is a five star establishment like a fancy Ritz Carlton or something, it's just a sandwich shop after all, it's just that they're very good at what they're there to do. ...
Read moreI am completely blown away by this place and not in a good way!. This place used to be the standard for great and delicious subs! Now it's awful with super skimpy subs that are extremely over priced and a free attitude to go with it. The steak and cheese was very bland and didn't even fill the sub roll. The Italian sub was nothing more then a joke. Pretty sad you can get a better sub at Market Basket. I remember a time when this place filled their subs with great tasting products and greeted you with a smile. Now it seems it's a bother for them when you walk in. The steak also had alot of gristle and had almost a dirty grill taste. The fry oil needs to be changed more as they tasted like old grease. So many places to get subs in this town and everyone knows Hucks used to be the place. To bad big thumbs down for me.
Maybe try going back to the basics and focus more on making customers happy instead of trying to retire early with the...
