The good: The upstairs has a nice view of the park and lake and marina. Service and food prep was fast. There was plenty of room.
The bad: They opened too soon because they had a lack of common items a restaurant should have like salt and pepper shakers and coffee pots. Our waitress had to go downstairs to get our coffee which she made a point to tell us she would have to do that…I guess she was hoping we would order something else to drink???? Then we wanted salt for the fries and she had to search for a free set on other tables saying they didn’t have enough salt and pepper shakers. Not kidding here!!! I have never seen that before in 50+ years of dining out.
The food was average tasting but the haddock sandwich I had was somewhat small and thin, looking small compared to the bun. I had to sadly chuckle at the tartar sauce smear on the bun, it was the size of a half dollar and could be seen through. Mayo and relish together make tartar sauce and considering how cheap that is to a 16 dollar small sandwich you might at least use a bit more so it can be tasted. I would have asked for more but our waitress had already run downstairs to get us coffee and searched around for salt so I didn’t want to put her out again.
We hated the music in the place upstairs because it was scratchy sounding and much more worse than that IT WAS TOO LOUD. It’s a breakfast/lunch place not a nightclub especially at 11:30 in the morning. We asked our waitress if the music could be turned down and she huffed about it. I saw her pick up the controller and exaggerate a single punch on the volume button which essentially did almost nothing.
So then we had to go out on the deck to get away from the loud music where we could finally talk without speaking in loud voices to hear each other. The problem with that was we had to eat in the heat. I prefer not having to choose between two terrible options but it was better to sweat while eating hot food than to suffer through loud scratchy music and yelling at each other.
Result: Although we were hoping this place could’ve been a second choice to catch breakfast or lunch we will consider this place only as a last resort place to go. It is unfortunate that Wolfeboro is so short on breakfast/lunch options and this place really hasn’t come up to snuff with the only other 2 places in town. It’s hard to get a table at the Bay Diner without long waits (understandable as they excel on almost all aspects) and the other place in the plaza across the street from Harvest Market (which is ok). This place could really fill a need so far unfulfilled if they work out...
Read moreThe old downtown grill was amazing , had an amazing breakfast, the NEW downtown grill I’m sad to say was HORRIBLE! From the time we walked in it was like we were invisible , the bartender/waitress ignored us for the longest time. We finally sat then we were invisible again . Finally I asked if someone was going to take our order…it got even worse. The food tasted like it was soaked in oil, English muffins burnt on one half the other half not toasted at all, eggs like rubber food forgotten, my plate looked like someone else’s leftovers. So dissapointed! This used to be a favorite of ours. The cook yelling at the young server boy in front of customers was so unprofessional as he was touching his phone (bare hands) and then the bacon and putting it on our plates because of Course where your seating you can see everything ! The FOH manager was very sorry and we did tell her we notice your short staffed we know your under new owners but you have to get it together ! She did not charge us for our meals which there were 7 of us because NO one ate anything off these plates and she wanted to give us a gift card but we said NO it’s not about getting anything from you it’s about getting the honest feedback to help you guys improve ! We want you to succeed you just have to figure it out! I hope they can get...
Read moreAs year round residents, we’ve been here many times. I like it because the bar almost always has available seats regardless of day/time. Went in last night at 6pm with the wife. Bar completely empty. New bartender like usual here. Maybe it was her first time behind a bar. Ordered a couple 20oz beers. My beer was 1/3 head/foam. After we finished our beers we waited for her to eventually return. Ordered 2 more beers and dinner. While we waited, a customer came in for take out and mentioned it was the only place open tonight. Only place open in town, in the summer, and it’s empty? Yikes. My $22 burger came out and it looked sad. Wilted piece of lettuce - like they are trying to give you the least amount with the worst presentation. Dried up tomato. Waitress gave us 2 cocktail napkins each. Halfway through the “meal” i went hunting for real napkins and found them. Nobody said anything or seemed to care. There’s 4 TVs but the 2 in front of us were just turned off. No music. No people. No reason to come back. Not sure how this place stays open year round with this consistent combo of price, food and service. We left...
