ZERO stars. I'm not even sure where to begin. I don't always write reviews, but when I do, I wish to only write positive ones. Unfortunately, there will be some I have no choice but to write because of how I feel after the negative experience. The 1st & only original Katz's that I know of is in N.Y.C, east village area and started out in the late 1800's. I decided to check out your deli/restaurant. I do not think they would be happy that you are using their name and seem to be hanging on their coat tails as well, unless agreed upon. You are nowhere near, or even close to their standards. Their food/sandwiches are way better, the best I've had. Look at their reviews. It says it all & speaks for itself.
Here in CT, it may be convenient for some people, but I am willing to travel to N.Y.C., appx 78 mile drive for some great, awesome, delicious, solid food with no issues.
Last night, my wife & I decided to dine at your location. She had the turkey meatloaf sandwich, which she claims was mediocre at best. I had the cheeseburger, which seemed to be and tasted like a frozen meat pattie on a plain simple room temperature roll. I'm not impressed. Both meals were below average for us. Then I took a chance and ordered a matzo brie to go because when I asked our waitress about it, she said it was limited time for passover only, so I decided to try it. When I received and opened the sealed bag to check the order out before paying and leaving. I did not get the waitress's name, but she was wearing black eyeglasses & had tattoos. I told her I may not want it because there was hardly anything there, very small amount, that of a kids portion. She told us, "It was made with 3 eggs." it did not look like it did. She didn't know how many matzo crackers were used to make it. It cost $11.99, and for that price, there should have been more. I think, for that portion, it should be more like $7- $8 at best. She told us she could not take it back because it had already been charged and offered us extra matzo crackers instead, she gave us 2. We excepted but will not be returning, Sorry ! When we got home and tasted it, it could have been better. Maybe thats why they add a small container of brown sugar. It was not properly mixed and was separated. Some egg on the sides of the container, & tasted only like scrambled eggs.
On the bright side, the place was clean and service not bad. The only other thing we had no issues with was the pickles, small but good. Maybe 3-4 stars for the last 3...
Read moreI wish I could give this place more stars, because I really wanted to like it, and there were a ton of people there, which is usually a good sign. I walked in and there was a man asking people if they wanted tables. He skipped right over me, and asked the man behind me if he wanted a table. I actually was planning on eating there, but felt very unwelcome and decided to take it to go. Wasn’t the best atmosphere to dine in, anyways. The gentleman at the counter with the beard was very polite and efficient, not overly friendly, but a good worker. I ordered this turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce and Mayo on a grinder (pics below). It was SUPER expensive, almost $16. I don’t mind paying for food, because I LOVE grinders, and it’s the one food I could absolutely eat every single day if I had to, so I didn’t care how much it was…. The first bite was super dry and the bacon was hard as a rock. I figure maybe they just didn’t put Mayo all the way to the edges….. nope. The whole sandwich was like that. They put a small squirt of Mayo in the center of the sandwich, none at all on the bread? I’ve never seen this before and it was quite literally the driest sandwich I’ve ever had. The turkey seemed good quality, but that too, had no flavor and was DRY. I was driving about an hour for something I had to do so I couldn’t go back and I couldn’t go home so I ended up tossing the second half of the grinder. It was not good. If I had gotten the opportunity to be asked if I wanted a table, I may have chosen something else or may have been able to ask for more Mayo. Overall, I would never get another grinder from here. May try something else if I’m ever out that way again, but wouldn’t make...
Read moreThis was my first time at this location. My first impression was that it was set up as a typical Deli like you would find in New York City. As soon as you sit down someone comes over with a bowl of coleslaw and a half dozen pickles. Nice touch and greatly appreciated. The food, I had a chicken Caesar wrap. It cost $11, so right away I was thinking that it was on the expensive side. Especially since it doesn't come with anything. So I ordered onion rings for another $4. So now I am all in for $15 plus tax and tip for a chicken wrap with onion rings in the middle of Connecticut, not New York City. The quality of the food was okay. The chicken however was only 5 thin slices of chicken breast inside a wrap with croutons and Caesar salad dressing and Romaine lettuce. I felt like it was over priced by about 40% compared to other local delis. Especially since I had to pay an extra $4 for a side with it. I'm not sure I would go there again as it is not near me and I didn't really enjoy the food that much. But to be fair the place was jamming with people so it is apparently very popular with the local crowd, and is probably helped by the fact that it is 30 seconds off of the Merritt Parkway. I know people that absolutely love this place so you'll have to look at their reviews as they have an obviously different perspective on this restaurant. Overall I give it three stars nothing great...
