If you value customer service, stay away. I am compelled to write this review in regards to the service provided by the usual counterperson who takes most of the phone orders and payments upon pick up, (I'm sorry but I have never asked him his name). This person has been working there for as many years as I have been patronizing this restaurant. This person is rude, pompous and does not value a repeat customer. I have literally spent thousands of dollars frequenting Thai Stories over the years from frequent weekend take out orders to catering several large events and have all the receipts to prove it. Last week I ordered a rice noodle soup which I have order many, many times before. Upon arriving home, the broth soup container was half the size as usual. Thinking it was an honest mistake, I called the restaurant and the counter person was rude and combative as to that's always been the size and told me if I did not like it to email the owner, which I did and never received a response, not to mention the rice noodle soup is $16.
I typically don't write complaints as I do not have the time to put into such efforts, but I felt I needed to here as this is not the first time this person has been that rude with me. Several years ago, I called to order a Pad Thai, a Drunken Noodle and an Eggplant Basil. I hung up the phone and exactly one minute later I called back to switch the Eggplant Basil to a Yellow Curry. This same person would not let me switch the order and told me I would have to pay for it regardless. I was dumbfounded and swore I would not repeat my business but after some time I thought maybe he was having a bad day and gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Well, unfortunately this is it, I cannot in good conscience go back to Thai Stories. I always want to give a business an opportunity to fix an issue before posting a review on line, and I never got a response. I cannot stand a business that does not value...
Read moreYesterday had a delightful lunch in this compact, well designed bistro. The interior has a clean, tidy look. We sat at a table with some elbow room and far enough away where other diners couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear them. Joy greeted us and helped me with the order. My companion is a seasoned Thai cuisine aficionado, and knew right off what he wanted. This is not where the cheapest chow is to be had, nor is it where the linoleum is cracked and dying plants set the tone. The crab appetizer was modest in portions but very tastey and the dip added some depth of flavor. Thai tea is easy to take while we ate, and Joy was solicitous seeing if all went well. We had a dumpling noodle soup that was warming on a chilly November day and the mix of foodstuffs was filling and complete. We lingered a bit after. On leaving I had to ask about the 50 some odd doll figures suspended from the ceiling throughout the restaurant. I asked Joy about them and she said a relative made them to honor a famous Japanese Anime heroine. The fabric was multi colored plaid and very festive looking. Hearing her describe that the cloth would be used in Thailand as material for aprons. The exchange and the sight of the gaily colored items hovering over us added another pleasing experience to our lunch. Thanks Joy! Eating at your place was pleasant and we certainly got a Thai Story about the colorful toy figures. ...
Read moreCame here on a friend's recommendation . Boy was she right about this one The picture online is old. The new interior update and color scheme is darker and moody and very cool for the area and plaza it is in. It's not extremely loud in there which make it even more calming and you don't have to scream to the person across the table. The service is fast and attentive and the presentation of the food is nice too. The food we ordered , the crispy pad Thai , was delicious because of the spring onion and sauce at the bottom. But is mixed with fair amount of chicken, shrimps, cashews, and it made the plate addictive. We could not stop eating it ! I could have used a little more heat /spice, but for those who can't handle spice this place labels all meals with a "spice factor". Overall this place is a gem in New Haven (Woodbridge CT to be exact ). It's definitely a Thai story with a great ending (delicious simple mango + sticky rice dessert to share). It is definitely worth another trip. Finally I heard the spicy basil entree and the curries are delicious too. You have...
